David Greenwitch
Hello everyone, I recently started making my own geocaches and now I discovered the Wherigo cache type. So I made my own but the story is a bit more complex and has three different endings. Each of them has an own log depending on which story line you go. When I register my cache it says: "Please enter the coordinates of the final location" so it wants the final coordinates of only one cache. How can I connect the three of them? Should I make three different (mystery) caches and write in the description that you need to play the related Wherigo cache? Or shall I set the three coordinates as waypoints in my Wherigo cache? Hopefully someone here has an idea for me. Thank you very much, Tobias Edited May 17, 2013 by David Greenwitch Quote Link to comment
Geo-Magician
If I look at your problem I see that it comes down to the question: How do I report/protect 3 cache locations in one cache. I think you should use a Wherigo Cache and add the two additional final locations as waypoints. If you make these waypoints hidden from view type: stages of a multicache you will achieve what you are looking for. David Greenwitch
Ah, thank you! Okay. So then everyone logs to the same cache instead of three different ones. Okay, would be an option. And for the form which asks me for the "final location" I just chose one of them? +Zorkan_Heneron
Hi David I have a somewhat similar situation. I am using one cartridge for 7 different caches in a series. Each cache in the series is a continuation of the storyline in the cartridge. It is still in progress but I discussed it with a reviewer before starting and they gave me the go ahead. However in your situation, if you made 3 Wherigo caches with your cartridge, the cacher would have to replay the first part of the cartridge 3 times, one for each cache or you can make a save point just before their decision. The only problem with that is if the cacher makes a further save down storyline 1, I don't know of a way they can get back to the "choice" save to then do storyline 2 and 3. Ranger Fox
If the finder should just log one of the three caches, make any of the three finals the "final" on gc.com and enter the others in as additional physical waypoints, "stages" of the cache. That way you have one cache and one cartridge. If the objective is for people to experience all three alternate endings, create three distinct geocaches and use the one Wherigo cartridge for them. David Greenwitch
Thank you all for your help. Well, my plan was that the player is playing the "game" only once and has to make certain decisions. So even though I'm sure some may play the game more than once just to get the other log I think it would fit to keep it as a single one. After all, it would be interesting to read (in the logs) which way they went instead of reading they made all of them to log even more caches. I believe the game might lose a bit of its story if the focus would be too much on the logging side. So I guess I will do it this way. Even though this leads me to another question: Is the rule of 0,1 mi distance to the next physical cache necessary for my own waypoints? I saw some great locations for the finals which also would be great to keep them somehow closer together. All of them would be far enough from others but probably not from each other. So hopefully I can make Wherigo caches a bit more famous in my area. Only four of them are here! :-( Thanks, Dave Hi David I have a somewhat similar situation. I believe the 0.1 mile restriction only applies to other cache listings. It doesn't apply to stages within the same listing, so you should be okay. Quote Link to comment
+redsox_mark
Here is an example where a single Wherigo leads to one of 3 caches, depending on what decisions the player makes. Forest of Peril: Gold Forest of Peril: Silver Forest of Peril: Bronze Quote Link to comment
