+Team Rusch
Has anyone had success in buying a cable for the etrex basic gps (yellow one) from an auction. I am looking to purchase one and do not find any new for less then 29.99. Have you bought one at auction and been happy. I would prefer one that is garmin brand. I am however a little hesitant to buy one from ebay. Any thoughts on what to do? Quote Link to comment
Eric O'Connor
I happen to have two of such cables with only one GPSr that it will work on, I'm not selling though since it's handy to leave the spare in my notebook bag for use while on the road. With regards to the auction sites and eBay in particular. I have both bought and sold using their services and have had nary a problem. I wouldn't hesitate to use them, but if you can find a cable here, so much the better. I know of at least three geocachers who regularly sell things on eBay. Pay attention the the seller ratings (making sure they're not in the cellar) and look for a bargain. One option would be to upgrade to a used Venture and sell the basic afterwards. The Venture has more going for it than just the cable. Quote Link to comment
mcb
If you are just making a data cable and if you are OK with a little soildering then you can make you own very cheap. http://www.pfranc.com/projects/g45contr/g45_idx.htm Here a good place to get instruction and some of the part you will need. Also I notice the above site has a link to a sweet set of cable for all garmin GPS units check it out. http://www.pfranc.com/cables/index.shtml Their cables are reasonably priced and if you have both a eTrex style GPS and a III+ style GPS you can buy a data cable for both and then just one of their car adapter that will work with either. It out put both 3V and 12V. Check it out is seems very well thought out. Later mc GPS-Yote Quote Link to comment

VibeGuy
I purchased one on eBay last week from GPSGeek. Price was $9.50 plus shipping. It arrived in 3 days and works perfectly. Quote Link to comment
+Team-Barker
Got one from gpsmemory for $24.95 and it works great. I'm sure there are others out there that are cheaper, but I am happy with the quality of the one I got. GPS Memory Homepage GPS Memory Data + Power Cable for eTrex Quote Link to comment
georgeco
I've been making and selling such cables on ebay for about six months and I'm just starting to sell kits. If you're handy with a soldering iron, cables for eTrex are very easy to make (you can even make one without soldering...) I can sell you a kit with instructions to make a PC Cable our you can source the parts yourself and use the instructions from pfranc.com. +Harrald
I bought one on E-Bay for $9.99 + $4.50 S/H I've been using it for about 3 weeks and haven't had a problem at all. It's not the aftermarket cable it's the actual Garmin cable. FYI I bought it from vl1066 ==================================== As always, the above statements are just MHO. ==================================== Quote Link to comment
+mattb5
I bought the power/data cable from gpsgeeks for $18.95. Haven't tried the power part yet but the data works great! Looks like a nicely made cable. If you have any questions just ask them. I sent a question at around 10:30 at night and got a reply back in about 2 min! And it was a very knowledgeable answer. Highly recommend. Quote Link to comment
