It's bad enough that the tromped on plants surrounding a cache act like a neon sign without additional clues being laid out. What next? Trained squirrels that form a line and point whenever a handheld GPS is spotted? On second thought that squirrel trick might be worth a hike to see. I'll grab a few bags of peanuts and get started on my new master plan in the morning.
  2. I'm the only geocacher stuck at the DMV... "Now serving F024"...yawn. .
  3. Great. First you single handidly give thousands of geocachers eyestrain, as we are now required to look at innocent stumps with all the care of a Hollywood prenup. Now you want us to break out the rubber hose everytime a bird hovers a little too long in one place. Ah hell, if I can't find something in Berkeley that will help me float up to your cache then I don't deserve the find in the first place.
  4. About 10% of the people here in Berkeley have made the switch. .
  5. The old expression "I'm a lover not a fighter" applies here. I'm not an artist either. I tried to come up with something last February and drew a golf flag sticking out of a stump. I like the idea of a free-for-use logo. .
  6. Wouldn't that depend on the hint? I mean there are hints... "Vg'f haqre gur obhyqre funcrq yvxr Arvy Lbhat'f urnq" and then there are hints... "Znxr fher naq oevat ybgf bs jngre." If scores were to be factored in (for some reason) than the hint would need to be rated as well. .

DUH, sometimes, I'm just too stupid for my own good. TechnoGEEK It helps to know Lep. Anytime you see one of his post it's best if you watch your step... .

  12. If people are going to start following their nose, or that of their dogs... I'll start putting out some form of doggy bait to lead them away from the cache. It can't be anything harmful or detrimental to the enviroment...hmmm What about perfume? Would that work to fool a dog? Hunters have long used various forms of urine, how about llama urine? Can we start incorporating paws into the rating? "This cache is 2.5 paws" <- j/k Will dogs trade fairly? He doesn't look anything like me. Congratulations! I'm just surprised you didn't give him an old fashioned biblical name.. You know, like "Garmin". You finally have your boy, Bret... No longer can the women in your house gang up on you three to one. Here's hoping that he grows up to be a chip off the old block. -- The printer within the dry stadium is the carrot that cooks familiarly.

  18. quote:Originally posted by Team StitchesOnQuilts:I responded to "Mitsuko" like I would any other newbie, trying to be helpful and friendly. Now I feel really stupid, and will probably think twice before helping a new person, wondering if it's another "Mitsuko". I'd hate to think that you'd take things that far. Many people read your response, and a few will use that information on some level. Many more people read these forums than post so you can be assured that your time was far from wasted. Now, in response to you feeling foolish... That's the reason I never intended to "come clean". I was going to have her fade away, she was already barely posting in the second week. I was hoping that people would adhere to Jeremy's previously stated wishes and take the discussion elsewhere. When that wasn't happening, I came clean only to ask that further discussion not take place here. I started a thread about Mitsuko in alt.rec.geocaching shortly after that post. I'd also like to take this moment to ask that anyone who has, or is conteplating the use of fictional identities to re-think and dismiss the idea. The only reason Mitsuko was amusing to anyone at all, on any level, was that many people were not expecting it. These forums need to be like Ivory soap. 99 44/100 pure. That goes double for "real" posters who don't think before hitting send. You may think it's just text on a monitor, but your words might have more impact than you intended. Solohiker once wrote: "Have you guys seen pictures posted by geocachers? We are not an attractive group. Who wants a box full of pictures of ugly people?" Mitsuko was my response to his perspective.
  19. quote:Originally posted by Dawgies:I personally don't agree with you. I prefer learning over slamming someone emotionally and playing with their minds. What exactly are you learning in the weapons thread? That people disagree? I begged the Groundspeak crew to end that thread after things became hostile, yet on it goes.... Where and when exactly have I slammed anyone emotionally? (Bassoon is asking for it, but I'll keep my mouth shut ) Ask anyone who took the time to write "Mitsuko" how they were treated. Other than occasionally smacking around "Eug" on the IRC channel, I try hard to keep things upbeat and informative.

  22. quote:Originally posted by Jeremy (Admin):Thank you for not disrupting the forums. By using these words you leave me no choice but to take this personally. The vast majority of responses to my joke have been positive, in spite of the fact that I pleaded for negative feedback. I agree that the forums need to return to a certain level of dignity, but to compare the Mitsuko event with the weapons thread and respond the way you chose can only mean that you prefer negativity to humor. That's not how I choose to spend my leisure time and I'm sure other will agree.
  23. quote:Originally posted by sbell111:Why would a terrorist not paint his ammo can/bomb pink with yellow flowers and a geocaching.com URL? Fashions change and any modern terrorist will want to keep up with latest in stylings. I've heard rumors that Paris has released a whole new line of cache camo designs. I've not seen them myself but if history repeats themselves the newest designs will be entirely too thin to hold anything realistically sized. Obligatory reality: Bad people want press, a blown up bush does not press make.

Everyone is a little different in person than they are online, but I try pretty hard to be the same everywhere. waypoints.org is one of my domains, and I've pointed that to the Mitsuko page. I'm curious about the psychological aspects of her relationships but also that of the average geocacher. I'm not a doctor, but it still fastinates me as to why we are drawn so passionately to this activity. I've played tennis, I've hiked, I've had all sorts of hobbies but geocaching.... that's different.
