If there was no wooden hub there, then it's a cool hide.

Otherwise, I'm not so sure that's such a good idea.

It's a bad idea no matter what. It gives the wrong impression about geocachers and geocaching. The sad part is that it has 15 favorites votes.

It looks like it has some type of light hanging from there at some time and the person that hid the cache used the hole that left over to hide the cache.

I'm no carpenter, but that looks like a fairly newly drilled hole. Not terribly cool methinks.

I'd need a higher res photo to tell, but the two lighter rectangles make it look like a light could've been there before. Or were those from how the cache was attached?

Also interesting that the paint seems to match pretty good on the sides, but stands out like a sore thumb on the bottom surface.

when you see a cool cache you like, and you maybe think it violate the guidelines,

at least many other people think it does, maybe it is better NOT to post pictures and the GC number here ?

some people will try to have it shut down,

if any kinds of modifications to existing material was performed,

like if a nail or drill was used.

 

I see guideline violations all the time, or at least I maybe think it is,

some people are more smart and got special permission from the owners,

or they maybe even constructed the whole wooden house you sit under,

so offcourse they can legally drill all the holes in it they like,

they also know if it is weaken the construction or not.

And? If the cache violates the guidelines, it should be shut down.

You are correct, there could be extenuating circumstances. So when I see something like what G&B posted, I usually send an email to the local reviewer, and let them handle it.

I would say a NA would be proper. Just hope the cacher would fill the hole and repaint everything to match.
