PDOP's
Hi I'm using Netscape 4.79 and since last night I've been seeing a stripped down version of forums (plain white background, no grid) All of the content is there just none of the "frills". Anyone else seeing this? Link to comment
Faderaven
right? Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore Link to comment
Criminal
I have 7 and it's doing the same. Dunno why.. Link to comment
Mr. Snazz
Sounds like a CSS issue. No problem here, using the less-correct and obviously broken IE 6.0.2600. Link to comment
Elias
Did this problem really start on the 19th? I'm not aware that any updates were made to the forums on the 19th. If you're sure, I'll look into it and see what might have happened. -Elias Link to comment
PDOP's
Elias I noticed it late last night. It was normal earlier in the day. Faderaven I like it without all the AOL garbage. Link to comment
Damgiz
I just now see mine is the same. I was on earlier today and all was well. I thought maybe I had reset something. Wouldn't be the first time. Link to comment
PDOP's
Still happening. Any word Elias? Link to comment
Mr. Snazz
Netscape users who have the issue, will your browser display this file? http://opentopic.Groundspeak.com/0/OpenTopic/,a,gcss,s,1750973553,st,9970992763,xx,vol/ip99709927631040258857.css You should see the word BODY at the top, with a bunch of "code". This is the CSS file specified for one of the forum pages, which controls the look... My guess is that, for whatever reason, your browsers can't retrieve the file - or, perhaps a non-standard CSS element was introduced into the file, which is causing netscape to barf on the entire file (IE tends to be much more "forgiving" about nonstandard and invalid entries). +Mr. Snazz
The W3C validator has a few issues with the CSS, but I'm not sure if any of them are enough to cause netscape to puke and not use any of the css info at all. w3c validation of the css file Couple of parsing errors in a few of the classes... +PDOP's
Mr Snazz I get a blank gray page on your first URL. On the second I get a list of errors a couple of pages long. The problem isn't just limited to Netscape as Damgiz reported the same problem in IE 6 in another thread. Link to comment
Mr. Snazz
Ok, problem seems to be related to being able to retrieve the css file then. Hopefully Elias et al are reading this thread ----- you can hear what the fish is doing... Link to comment
Mopar
Mrs.Nazz's link also gives me a blank page, but I havent noticed any NEW problems with the forums. The change from the OLD forum software last year caused a few problems with netscape that were never fixed, but they are mostly minor, and I've learned to live with them. I too dont like the newer AOLified versions of netscape, and they are even more bloated, codewise, then IE. I use netscape and netscape mail to bypass all the security flaws in IE/outlook. Also the installed size takes up alot less space then current versions of IE and outlook. Pretty important on the (now)old laptop I'm using at the moment. +Mr. Snazz
I'm not 100% sure what the blank page behaviour means. I tried it using a copy of Mozilla I had laying around... maybe I'll download nutscrape and try it with that this evening. Link to comment
PDOP's
Everything's back to the way it was originally Link to comment
PDOP's
This is wierd. The main forum, General and Units & Software are OK while the Getting Started and Canada pages are still stripped down. Link to comment
fizzymagic
They have apparently added some Javascript to the stylesheet. Actually, from testing with Mozilla and IE, it looks like they added something Netscape 4.7 thinks is Javascript. If you enable Javascript, everything will look normal. If you don't, you'll get the stripped-down pages. My advice: go get Mozilla 1.2.1; it's a much better browser than the old Netscape. Link to comment
Damgiz
I use IE and am happy to report all my discussion pages appear to be back to normal. They do look much better this way. Link to comment
rayt333
I am using NS7 and I have not seen any difference over the last few days. And yes I can see the link Mr. Snazz posted. BODY { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica; font-size: ; color: #000000; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; } TD, TH, TR, P, DIV, SPAN { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica; font-size: ; color: #000000; } .ip-popup-table { width: 95%; } /* * Table Coloring Styles */ .ip-cat-font, .ip-cat-font a, .ip-cat-small-font, .ip-cat-small-font a { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica; color: #000000; } .ip-cat-font { font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica; font-size: 80%; Link to comment
Moore9KSUcats
I'm using IE6.0 and it periodically gives the striped down page. My wife was trying to tell me something was strange, but when she tried to show me it was OK, then I sat down just a few minutes ago and it's doing it again. .......and just as soon as I posted and went back into the forum it was back to normal! .......gone again - I also notice that when I'm editing a message while the problem is occuring, that a different font is being used in the edit area......very strange..
