+softballmom19
Just wondering if there is a guideline as to how accessible as cache is to be for the cacher. If its placed in a spot that is out of reach for most people should there be something stated as such on the cache page? I came across two caches that with some climbing into a tree and another where I had to search around for something to stand on to reach the cache. All of these caches were marked as 1.5 or 2 as terrian which fit as for a the walk to the cache. The one cache that was placed out of reach in a tree was marked as being kid friendly. Ok may the kid would have better luck climbing the tree then I did. Quote Link to comment
+StarBrand
Nope - no height guidelines. I've used my hiking staff, tree limbs, metal pole left nearby, child on shoulders and climbing to get caches in trees. Quote Link to comment

I'm not sure what the correct terrain would be but my guess is 3.5 or higher depending on how high and if special equipment is needed. Being on the short side I really appreciate it if the CO mentions the height issue in the cache description. If I get to a cache that is inappropriately marked i.e. a T2 and no mention of it being 8 feet up in a tree (or a behind a loose brick on a building, etc.), I would note the height issue and terrain issue in the online log. Maybe the CO is tall and didn't consider the difficulty for shorter people and may not understand the DT ratings (Clayjar's rating system is rather simple and really doesn't address climbs. The terrain elevation part talks about slopes, not climbs.). Quote Link to comment
+edscott
Agree with Lone R. A couple weeks ago I had to skip one that I could see but not reach. I put a grabber in the car and stopped by later for it. By the guidelines it is a terrain 5 for those that can't reach 9 feet up. Jumping wouldn't help unless you have a good hang time as it is a nano tucked up inside the post holding a sign. I'm not advocating branding caches like this terrain 5, but there should be a note or an attribute to warn people that it may not be accessible to everyone. +briansnat
2 terrain for finding something to stand on sounds about right to me. Well maybe a 2.5 max. Found one years ago where I had to go back to my car and get a chair. I'd have rated it a 2. Quote Link to comment
