+Geo Ba
I have been thinking about something and would like some feedback. I was thinking about having a "Hike of the Month" event cache. Basically pick a trail (one per month) and set it up as an event. Come on the hike and get the find. Could also find the caches along the trails as well. Good idea? Bad idea? Thoughts? Would be in and around the Maryland area. Quote Link to comment
+kayak-cowboy
This is already being done in a few areas. Not every month though. A group of cachers get together for some type of breakfast (donuts) at the trail head before going on a hike. There is no need to require going on the hike to get credit, just show up to the event. There has been as many as 60 people show up to some of the "trail mixes" in our area. Plan it and people will come. Quote Link to comment
+joranda
It is a great indea but I have been told that you can't have a event just to take people caching so you would have to mix something in with it. It should be easy to mix stuff in with it. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
Sounds like a great idea. The only barrier is that an event can't be set up for the purpose of finding caches. Still, you can set up a hiking event and nobody is going to complain if you happen to find caches along the way. These sort of events have been going on for years. You'll see the "Sunrise Stepoff" thread here. Some of the "stepoffs" were organized as events. Nothing regular, but a regular event of the sort you propose could be popular. In northern NJ there is the first Monday meet and greet. Why not have a first Sunday hike? (caching optional of course) Quote Link to comment
