+mustanglx
This may sound like a stupid question, but how the heck are you to use BMGPX!!! I downloaded the program and unzipped it. There was to files, bmgpx and readme. The readme does nothing and the bmgpx opens a black DOS window that has a bunch of nonsense, to me anyway. I can't find anything on how to use it. Any help would be great. mustanglx Quote Link to comment

+parkrrrr
BMGPX is designed to be run from a command prompt (some people call it a "DOS prompt.") Here's a post that sort of explains how to make a drag-n-drop icon that you can use to run bmgpx without having to get your hands too dirty, figuratively speaking. Quote Link to comment

The link on that post points to a forum that is no longer active. Could someone post the actual instructions here? Quote Link to comment
+parkrrrr
The forum's still active, but the archive software's having problems. I went and found the original post in my inbox and I've edited it for bmgpx: quote:To create a very simple drag-n-drop system for [bmgpx]: 1. Create a BATCH file called DATtoGPX.BAT in the same directory as bmgpx.exe. In that batch file, put: @echo offbmgpx %1 %1.gpx 2. Create a shortcut on your desktop to DATtoGPX.BAT 3. Drag-n-Drop DAT files onto the desktop icon you just created. Output will be dat_filename.dat.gpx in the same directory as the DAT file. Quote Link to comment
+gnbrotz
Ok, just kick me, but could someone please point me to how/where to get the .dat file? I've done it in the past, and even have the drag & drop shortcut set up, but now I can't remember where to get the .dat files. I've looked at the "get datasheets" page, but nothing jumps out at me. ArtMan
You can download the .dat files from the NGS website. Start here: http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/datasheet.prl Click on the 'Archived Datasheets' button Then click on the 'Yearly_Archives' button Select the state and jurisdiction you want Download the zipped version of the file you want (or the unzipped version, which you should save with a .dat extension). While you're on the NGS site, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the various finding tools available there. Some - especially the interactive map search (click on the 'Datasheets' button) - provide ways of finding benchmarks not available on geocaching.com. ArtMan Quote Link to comment
+DBleess
There's a readme.doc file included in the download. http://members.cox.net/dmbleess/geocache/benchmarks.htm SA / PP-ASEL-I Quote Link to comment
