Keyword TB

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

As a tadpole I'm keen to learn more, and am continually surprised by people's ingenuity with their hides and clues, and by the new things I keep finding.

My most recent new thing is a Keyword TB that wants to visit caches with that word in the title. Easy to find which caches have that word in their title?? No! Using the website keyword search brings up caches all over the world, not just in the UK. Restrict to a location and you can't search by keyword.

As there doesn't seem to be an easy way round this (or is there?), please can you help with the titles of caches in the South of England that have the word "Mark" in their titles?

If I'm doing something obviously wrong, and there is an easy way to do a search like this, then please let me know!

Thanks any help you can offer.

I've seen one of these 'keyword' trackables before, I know there's one geocacher who has a lot of them out in circulation...

I understand your problem regarding searching by a keyword within a restricted area. I don't know if it can be done - If it can, I don't know the way!

I did a bit of lateral thinking and did a few quick searches using 'market', 'marked', 'marks' etc. on the principle that a cache called "Stroud Supermarket Sweep" (GC1BW3H) has 'mark' in its title.

There's also

"Time at the Bar - the Market Inn" (GC1NAE3) Winchester

"X marks the spot" (GCT0FF) Guildford. There are quite a few caches with similar names - e.g. GCWRMW near Cobham.

Any of those near you?

I don't know if there is an easier way, my Oregon and EasyGPS (free) will search Pocket Quires (Premium member) for key words in cache names like that.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for your research & quick response! The Stroud one might be useful - and I'm sometimes down towards Guildford. I'll check them out. There is a Market cache in Abingdon which isn't too far from me, but it's too small for TBs.

I'll try the Firefox scripts too. Thanks.

Not *so* easy round your neck of the woods, there only seems to be three within 20 miles:

Fundamental Benchmark at Buckland (GC1G68M) by Spanky © (1.5/1.5)

Markham Bottom (GC1YG2C) by RoobyDoo (1.5/2.5)

Abingdon Market Square (GC1T2VT) by goodhorsehymn (1/1)

Y Marks The Spot (GC1FH4D) by muddy legs (1.5/2)

The first two are micros, the third a nano, so "Y Marks the Spot"?

Going further out to 50 miles:

Swells and Wells Walk 3 Mark Fenwick. (GC1K25B) by Wrighty (1.5/2.5)

This one went to market (GC17ATV) by berty blaireau (1.5/2)

Shipton Bellinger #2 "BMX marks the spot" (GC1Q8GQ) by lozzle nozzle (1.5/3)

Round Aylesbury Walk - Bench Mark (GCZ337) by housefamily (1.5/1.5)

X Marks the Spot (Bucks) (GC19009) by Team Hippo (5/2.5)

Skidmarks on my trousers (GCMFKG) by Dazzly, Andy, Kayleigh & Stephie (4/5)

Four Marks Four - Sports (GC1J59K) by Buzio (1.5/1.5)

Four Four Marks - Moondance (GC1H3J0) by buzio (1.5/2)

:) Thanks for your input. "Markham Bottom" looks like the place; not too far from me. The trackable came from the Buckland cache - which is the nearest one to me - so can't be popped back there by me.

The question is: How did you build the list?

Also, someone quoted the use of a "GSAk database". I've not come across that before (so much to learn!). Is that a Premium member feature, and how do I build one?

Cheers.

GSAK is a piece of software many of us use to manage our geocaching databases. It's commercial but worth every penny.

GSAK must be populated using pocket queries which are a premium member feature.

Those lists were generated using a GSAK macro (or "add-on") having filtered my database to caches which were near you and fulfilled the criteria.

Thanks for all your work on this. Looks like Premium membership & GSAK is the way to go.
