Am I missing something...

Ok, so I read the Idiot's Guide, bought a Garmin entrex Legend, read the manual, figured out how to enter waypoints manually, and then it hit me...how do I get to a far off location that I don't recognize (the first few cache's were in my home town)? Do I use my car gps? It only has capability of entering an address or intersection (not waypoints), or is there a way to use my handheld without crashing on the side of the road trying to read it and stay on track? Is there a hint on the data page itself in terms of the general area? HELP! I plan on going for my first cache this week.

thanks a bunch,

Janet in Hillsborough

many car navigation GPSs actually do have an option to enter longitude and latitude, you just may have to look a little harder for it. giving brand and model here may be helpful.

other than that, unless your handheld also features turn-by-turn car navigation (which the etrex legend doesn't), you shouldn't use it for car navigation purposes. however, each cache listing already has a link to google maps driving directions from your home coordinates. the regular google maps links is also a great way of seeing where the cache is and get an idea on how to get there.
