How do I report this makr

Its in the folder labeled other.

 

Its numbered SL-129A and I past it frequently. I used to live in the house that it's in front of now I live a few blocks from it. I saw someone reported SL-129 but I haven't visited that one yet. I think there maybe another marker near SL-129A I remember seeing a USGS map in High School before that one was placed.

Have you tried a search by zipcode ot lat/long? There should be an entry with that designation.

You don't mention where you are, but if it is St. Louis, you are talking about AA8650. SL-129A is the azimuth mark associated with SL-129. Happycycler doesn't mention if he looked for the azimuth mark, but I know from working with him that he usually does if he has time. These types of markers in the St. Louis area always come in pairs, the main marker and the azimuth mark and the designation is SL-nnn and SL-nnnA. Occansionally, one of the is replaced and the replacement will be stamped with a "2" after the original stamping. So, the short answer is that SL-129A is not a loggable marker.

I live in Spanish Lake down Columbus and I used to leave right next to SL-129A but moved a few blocks down.

Good job bradhig on finding the azimuth mark for AA8650. I hope that you go ahead and visit the AA8650 main survey mark (SL-129) and log both your azimuth mark (with photo) and main marks. You find & photo of the azimuth mark will

I walked over there today but I couldn't find sl-129. Is it under the trees by the sewer?

As I recall, the disk is in the grass between the sidewalk and the curb.

I think Sl-129 has been destroyed because I saw a broken piece of concrete laying near the sidewalk where the benchmark should be. Was the brown fence there when you visited Happycycler?

 

I am going to upload the image of the concrete to yahoo so you guys can see if it was part of the benchmark.

I don't recall if there was a brown fence -- I have visited several benchmarks since then.

Unfortunately survey marks do get destroyed. But they also get overgrown by the grass or weeds, buried by mulch or scree and otherwise obscured.

In any case please go ahead and log a note for

AA8650 and include your find and photos of the azimuth mark (SL-129A).
