Ok, here's the situation, i sought out a nano, and found it, and unbeknown to me it had a log inside. i sent an email to the CO with what i found and he confirmed that i had found it, and i logged it. but i didn't sign the log, so do i go back and sign log with the date that i found it, or what do i do

No biggie either way. If it comes right down to it the owner could delete the log without the signature. But you already have gotten past that possible issue.

The only time I, as cache owner, would care is if actually getting at the log to sign it was a part of the challenge. For example, I have a puzzle cache that the answer gives you the combination to the lock. The whole point of the cache is the challenge of finding the combination.

If the owner is OK with you not signing the log then don't worry about it. Or if it makes you feel better go back and sign.

Just remember that all geocaches should have logs.

To the OP : There are some grandfathered codeword caches around though, listed as traditionals. You find an object placed there by the cache owner, and email the code word to verify your find. And obviously Earthcaches and virtuals have no logs.

That's true about the earthcaches and virtuals. However I'm pretty sure there is no grandfather status for the codeword log requirement.

Guidelines on this issue:

Logging of All Physical Caches

Geocaches can be logged online as Found once the physical log has been signed.

If it is appropriate for your cache location or theme, you may ask the cache seeker to accomplish an optional and simple task, either close to the cache site (normally within 0.1 miles or 161 meters) or when writing their online log.

For example, wear the goofy hat inside the cache container and upload a photograph. Cache finders can choose whether or not to attempt or accomplish optional tasks. Cache owners may not delete the cache seeker's log based solely on optional tasks. This guideline change applies immediately to all logs written from April 4, 2009 and going forward. Older caches with "additional logging requirements" (ALRs) are not grandfathered under the older guideline. If you own an existing cache with mandatory additional logging requirements, we request that you:

* Cease deleting logs based on additional logging requirements.

* Review your own cache listing to see if the ALR can be made into an optional and simple task, or whether it must be removed altogether.

* Adjust your geocache listing by editing the text then contact a reviewer to change the cache type, if appropriate.

I know at least one in the area. Which doesn't mean much, of course - could be that no one complained - but I remember a thread where someone told me it was grandfathered, and when it happened (way before I started). The thread was before ALR as well. It's more like a virtual or Earthcache, where you need to email the CO with some details, than an ALR.

Still, in over a year, having seen only 1, I don't think they're very common.

Existing code word caches are grandfathered. There aren't a lot of them. I think I found 2 in 9 years.

EVERY owner checks this, especially the big and easily legible nano logbooks are checked. :D

I'm impressed that the OP even saw that evil little thing. :D

i didn't know that there was a log in it until i read some other's logs online, and i sent a message to one of the other finders (we've become friends) and asked as to where the log might be, this is probably gonna be my one and only nano, i'm developing a strong hatred towards them
