+HawkLawless1
How easy would it be to make the geocache website translatable? That is, in the event that a cache is listed/written in German (or any other foreign language), the simple click of a button would translate the information on the cache into the requested language. The only example I can think of is the Deutsche Bahn website: http://www.bahn.de/p/view/index.shtml At the top, click on the country flag and the website translates to the correct language. Would make downloading PQs much easier, especially when trying to go paperless. Thanks. Link to comment
+StarBrand
That particular example is not translating the web page into different languages. It simply load text that has been translated depending on the "flag" you choose. Thats the problem. Cache owners would have to submit thier cache pages in multiple pre-translated languages - just not feasible. None of the online translators does a very good job of getting all the sublte differences between languages - but there are several. Here is one..... http://www.microsofttranslator.com/Default.aspx try the page you cite and see how well an automatic traslator does vs a true translation. "Bahnreisen einfach günstig:" came out of the translator as "Rail & travel simply favourable:" Edited February 26, 2010 by StarBrand Link to comment

GermanSailor
Makes sense. Guess I'll never be able to go paperless overseas. Thanks, I'll try it. In western Europe people actually learn foreign languages, usually everybody speaks English. You can always ask the owner to provide you with a translation. At least the crucial parts can be translated. I just checked this site: http://www.online-translator.com The results are sometimes horrible, sometimes funny, but usually you get the information you need. +ekhoc
I would recommend the Google translator, http://translate.google.com/ While the translation is not perfect, it usually is good enough to find the cache. For more complex mystery caches, this may not be the case, though. Link to comment

Except today I attempted to translate an archived cache, and got the message "You are not logged in" When I logged in, and re-attempted the translation, I got the same message. I tried refreshing the page. Nothing works. How do I get past the login request? Link to comment

When you use a URL, it's not passing your credentials over, because the Google server is actually the client, not your PC (and since Google is "automatically" downloading the content (screen-scraping), one has to consider the TOU implications of doing this in that way). +ghettomedic
I downloaded the google toolbar for Firefox (not sure if it is available for other browsers.)EDIT= Is available for IE as well. When you open a page in another language it asks if you want it translated (or you push the translate button) works well so far. Edited March 15, 2010 by ghettomedic Link to comment
