njhowen
Argh! Off to Shrewsbury in the morning to do some geocaching, but the one I really want to do refers to something called a GPO.... what is that?? For specific reference/context, please see http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...y&decrypt=y (question 7, shrewsbury bridge) The question states 7 – SHREWSBURY RAILWAY BRIDGE "Shrewsbury railway station was built in 1848 and is unusual in that some of the platforms lie over the river, so are actually enclosed in this bridge structure. QUESTION 7 – It’s not on the bridge - but which numbers can you find connected to the GPO? _ _ / _ (M N / O)" All help appreciated! Need to get to bed to catch early train to Shrews! +Too Tall John
Can't say for sure, but I would expect that "GPO" would become clear when I arrived at the site. Quote Link to comment
+EscapeFromFlatland
My guess is there is a post office or post office mailbox at one end of the bridge. Find the numbers there? Quote Link to comment
+thedeadpirate
Could it be General Purpose Outlet? I'm not sure what electrical outlets are called in the UK, but that's one of the acronyms that came up on a search. Quote Link to comment
+d-dixon
Off to Shrewsbury in the morning to do some geocaching, but the one I really want to do refers to something called a GPO.... what is that?? A bit late, but GPO = General Post Office - the pre-1970 name for the UK's Post Office and telecomms company. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Post_Office Quote Link to comment
+ChaceGuild
Indeed - GPO=General Post Office A few manhole covers in our local area still read "GPO Telephone Exchange" They're also numbered... a little help, perhaps? Quote Link to comment
