+worstcaster
Is there any advantage to switching your GPS from auto to pedestrian mode when you get out of the car? Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
Yes, the GPS won't try to lock on the road Quote Link to comment
NordicMan
Yep and even if you are walking along a road, it won't try to *force* you to go only one way on a one-way street Quote Link to comment
+StarBrand
You will have a tough time with caches even slightly off the roadways as your GPS will always be trying to tell you to go back to the nearest road. At least in the Auto mode.... Quote Link to comment
+worstcaster
Thanks. I'll keep switching when I park. Quote Link to comment
jkettu
Also please note that at least on Garmins there is yet another setting: offroad. I believe that pedestrian still tries to put your position to a road, it just ignores all the car-specific stuff. Offroad is what I use every time I'm on foot. Quote Link to comment
+worstcaster
I'll have to check and see if I have that feature, next time I play with it. Quote Link to comment

Pedestrian/auto modes are strictly for route calculations. Once you're out of the car, you should switch to off-road navigation. After than, pedestrian or auto mode doesn't matter.
