ruffytiger
On a trip to a campground on the Natchez Trace (maintained by the National Park Service), we found several benchmarkers that read, USDI 3SPOT1 1958 NPS. I want to log these on my geocaching.com account, but I can't find how to do that. I took photos of all of them, for later logging. Can somebody help me with this? Thanks. ruffytiger Quote Link to comment
oakenwood
You can find them on the map here and click on the links to their geocaching pages. Quote Link to comment
+GeoGeeBee
You might get a better answer if you ask on the Benchmark forum. Depending on which agency placed the benchmark, you may not be able to log it on GC.com. There are a LOT of benchmarks that are not in the NGS database. Quote Link to comment
Keystone
I am moving this thread from the Geocaching Topics forum to the Benchmarking forum. Quote Link to comment
TillaMurphs
ruffytiger, By your description I don't think these are listed in the geocaching.com database. However, if you can post a photo, or tell us the coordinates or nearest city, then we can let you know for sure. - - The TillaMurphs Quote Link to comment
AZcachemeister
Isn't someone supposed to suggest Waymarking them about now? Quote Link to comment
+Black Dog Trackers
Ya, OK, I'll bite ruffytiger - You can log them at Groundspeak's Waymarking site for U.S. benchmarks. Quote Link to comment
+Klemmer
ruffytiger: In case you didn't realize: USDI = US Department of the Interior NPS = National Parks Service It's pretty doubtful those marks will be in the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) database, which is where the geocaching database came from. You can search by designation here: http://www.geocaching.com/mark/nearest.aspx but your example above doesn't come up. Looks like Waymarking is the way to go on these.
