what is TB dipping?

Howdy!

Dipping is where you log a TB through a cache (Drop and Retrieve) without leaving the traveler behind. (Logging just the Drop)

There are several reasons why you might want to Dip a Bug. It might be a personal traveler that you always carry with you. The cache might be too small to leave the bug but you want the bug to get credit for visiting. You might be carrying the bug on a trip and want to Dip it into caches before leaving it at a final destination. Or you want to start your bug at a nearby cache, close to home, before releasing it further down the trail.

Placing a bug into a new cache usually doesn't involve Dipping, just Dropping.

I just got on to check a search on this topic. What is the logging process for the drop and retrieve? Is it two separate entries?

After dipping a bug using logs, is it necessary to go back and delete those logs from the cache page?

Normally you would include the Drop along with your Found it log so no you wouldn't want to delete those.

If you are doing some back-logging once you submit the Note you will immediately be offered the option to delete.

Do you have to? No, I would think that most back-logging is below the last five logs so most people won't even see it.

However I choose to delete the back-logs. Especially if there is already a Found it or Note log that details my cache visit.
