  1. Worked great! Thanks for the suggestion!
  2. Other then 'memory is there any way to find our past FTFs? Can we search Groundspeak for our FTFs?
  3. This may be the problem. She is NOT a premium member. I did write to the reviewer to begin with. He did not know the answer to the problem. That is when I wrote to the forum. As you say, it appears he does not know that he can change this for her. I will write him again. Thanks for all your help on the Forum. Wrote the reviewer (again) with details as you folks have stated, just got a response from him and all is taken care of now! Thx so much for all your help! It is unfortunate that the reviewer didn't think of this in the first place. would have saved me a lot of time and trouble. At any rate, it's done now. Thanks again.

  5. I am signed in with her name/id but that box and check mark are NOT there! That does NOT come up on the edit page!
  6. My daughter has a cache she has designated as for premium members only. She would like to change it to allow anyone to access the cache. I have tried to help her but cannot find anywhere on the Edit page where it can be changed off of premium members only. I have written to the volunteer approver but he had no idea. Anyone here have any ideas? Can it be done? Or if once restricted does it have to stay restricted?
  7. After more then two years of use, I am suddenly unable to access cache website maps. I have no idea what happened to cause this and don't know where to go to fix the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thnks, rvjean
  8. I am unable to pull up any of the maps on any of the cache pages for the last couple days. I went to Google Earth and tried there but only a blank page comes up. Anyone have any ideas what may be wrong? thank you, rvjean
  9. After dipping a bug using logs, is it necessary to go back and delete those logs from the cache page?
  10. We didn't feel that we really knew enough about what's BAD until close to 100 finds! We have repeatedly been frustrated by newbys placements with coords WAY off (40-50'), or terrain/difficulty ratings way off. While location and placement are very important, so is the write-up and ratings. Most newbys don't seem to have accurate GPSr and also lack the Experience to get the coords right. I think you are doing right by getting your cache ready but holding off until you have a bit more experience with BAD cache finds so that you know what NOT to do! Cache on!
  11. I tend to agree with you off-camper. Also my annoyance level increases with these type of caches when: (1) There are few or no helpful clues given in the cache description or logs. If the cache is located near a well-known trail, then the cache description should include that information. (2) A small container size is used and/or gps signals are known to be poor in the search area. What's the point of putting a nano in a pristine site ? When these containers are used it is almost certain that the site will get trampled down; and that threatens the sport. (3) The cache owner does not disclose hazards associated with the search area. (4) The cache owner has no real interest in maintaining the cache. When I encounter one of these sites I also tend to classify the owner personality into one of three types: (1) Dumb-blond types: Hey let's place a cache near where the kids buried our pet canary. (2) Hey-Dude types: Hey, that hidden (drop-off, grizzly bear trail, slippery slope, etc) is cool. (3) Smart-a** types: I calculated satellite orbits and magnetic anomalies and they will NEVER get a signal in this area. The only item you mentioned that i do agree with is #4. Cache maintenance is something that is required and expected. The other three are up to the cache owner. It's up to the CO whether he or she chooses to give hints or clues. It's also up to him in what size cache and what container he chooses to use. And, you guessed it, it's up to him whether he wants to disclose hazards that may be associated with the cache hide. In otherwords, it's up to the cache owner as to whether they choose to hold a person's hand or not. As far as the OP, i'm not sure what to say. The cache scenario he mentions sounds mighty fine to me... I do have to say however, that i have good friends who prefer LPCs, guardrail, and other park and grab type caches much more than they like woodsie type caches. Of course there's nothing wrong with this at all,,, different strokes for different folks. The thing is, they don't go around complaining about cache types that they don't care for!
  12. I have been caching for 19 months now and have over 2000 finds. I have been using my Garmin Nuvi 350 all this time (just because that's what I had!). I do queries and download all the info into the Nuvi using the macro and POI. I am now in the market for a 'real' caching GPS and have narrowed it down to the Oregon or the 60CSx but cannot decide between the two! What are the main differences between the two (as it relates to caching)? Is there a noticeable difference in the screen size? The type (print) size? The capabilities?
  13. As a full-time RVer I cache in many different areas. I have found that the 'value' of the swag in general seems to change with the area. Some areas I find nothing of value or interest to either adult or child. In other areas the majority of the caches will have great swag. It seems to me that 'newbies' tend to follow the leadership of what they find as they learn. For instance, we were in one area where almost every cache had many 'stickers'. Even the micros had little animal, or whatever, stickers rolled up inside the logs. I had not seen this before. Yet in another area (far from the previous) about half of the cachers used address labels (what a waste of log space, was my reaction, but apparently it was enjoyed by these local cachers. I cached for over a year before ever finding any food (candy) in a cache (a definate 'NO, NO') - then I got into a new area and suddenly there was candy in 2/5 caches! Never saw it before or since but this area seemed to be ok with it (altho the hard candy melted into a terrible mess when the cache got water in it!) As I often find myself getting caches unplanned I then don't have swag with me so I try to always carry quarters so that I have something small to fit in most caches. Kids love to find money in the caches. Even pennies, nickles and dimes work well, are easy to carry and fit into most caches. We, too, cache for the thrill of the hunt, and find. Finding an occasional interesting bit of swag is no more then frosting on the cake.
  14. Last month I retrieved a Honuherd Turtle (originated in Hawaii). I have tried to email the owner (per instructions) but the msg's bounce showing that address in not active. Any ideas as to what else I can do? Or does anyone know anything about this little TB? I thought I had enteredt this question before but I'm unable to find it and any responses so am entereing again. Thanks for the help.
  15. I retrieved a Honuherd Turtle from Hawaii from a TB motel some time ago. There is a not to send an email - but all emails bounce as no address. Is anyone here familiar with this TB? I would like to notify the owners of it's whereabouts but don't know where to go next. Thx

    GEO COIN

I am a relative Newbie to GeoCaching so am still learning and geo coins is one thing I know very little about- but want to learn. Today I grabbed a coin from a cache. It was not listed as having been in that cache. I get no where when I try to search for it by the number on it. It does NOT say it is a geocoin. It appears to be a coin for a city, or county, in California for 2007. There are two numeric numbers so don't know which is the number. There is a larger number with alpha numeric. On the reverse are initials. Lots of initials...maybe 30 (IXE*JBN*LXRW, ETC). Can anyone tell me what this is? Is it just a personal coin for collectors? Does this not get registered? Is it simply a cache trade item? Appreciate any info you can supply. Thanks Jean rvjean@gmail.com
  17. I have a Nuvi 350 (WAAS enabled) that I have been using for Geocaching for 2 months now with great success! (got 212 caches so far). When I get within the cache area I switch to the satilite screen that shows the coordinates and from there it's an easy matter to walk directly to the cache coordinates. On two occassions I got to it faster then another couple using handhelds (which had only arrows to follow). In Quartzsite (first 55 caches) I was always withing 2-4 feet if the caches. In Yuma, however, I was usually 5-25 feet. But then Yuma is noted for making the hunting more challenging!
