+DE_Cryptoman Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 I started activating all the coins that I bought and then found that there were several that I wanted to keep in a private collection. I want them registered but I don't want them shown on my geocaching profile page. How can I remove the coins that are on my page now? I thought about creating a non-premium member name and adopting the coins out to the other name but that seems like it would be a misuse of the GC.COM website. Any assistance would be appreciated. Harry "Doug" Eyre DE_Cryptoman Copperas Cove, TX TXCC 254/11 There is no way to remove the coins from you profile page. Some people who activate their coins but keep them in their private collection create a geocache but never publish it. They then "place" the coins in their collection into that unpublished cache. It would remove the coins from your inventory but still keep the icons on your profile. Quote

+DE_Cryptoman Posted October 16, 2009 Author Posted October 16, 2009 Thanks for the input. I had not thought of a separate cache. I have one or two that I have disabled and this appears to be the best way for me to maintain my collection without having it on the main page. The post following indicated that the alternate name was also viable. We shall experiment. Thank you! Quote
+DE_Cryptoman Posted October 16, 2009 Author Posted October 16, 2009 Appreciate your prompt reply. Looks like I have two options now so I will experiment and see which one works out the best/easiest. Thank you! Quote
+WRITE SHOP ROBERT Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 It's not unusual at all for people to have more than one account. It's also not an abuse of the website...infact, the more usernames that register, the more GS can charge for placing ads on the site(if that's one of the calculations they use) Quote
+Eartha Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Just remember, if you create a new account, sock puppets are not allowed, and you cannot post in the forums with both accounts. Quote

Dropping your collection coins in a disabled I mean archived cache or unpublished cache is really the way to go if you're just trying to empty out your inventory. The icons will still show up on the list of coins you have activated on your Trackables page behind your User Profile where all your stats are kept. Edited October 16, 2009 by Droo Quote
+Howlingmoon Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 I have a published and active cache that I placed on my doorstep (almost literally...), and I've dropped my entire collection in there. I've had one or two cachers recently ask me about that, if all those coins were actually in the cache. LOL Um, that's kinda impossible, seeing as the cache tis a nano. rofl I do have a note on the cache's page that the coin's are not in the cache but, any cachers wishing to see them should stop by! Good luck cleaning up your coin inventory. Quote
+mrcanoehead224 Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 I'd rather go with the unpublished cache option. I think there would be less confusion for other cachers that might see there are bugs/coins in your cache and go to the location. I also know one cacher that activates all his coins then has another account that picks them up after the first drop. At first I thought it was a nasty coin thief that had it out for this cacher until it was explained to me. Quote
+Droo Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 I like the idea of putting all my activated coins in a cache at my door so they can be viewed and fondled by cachers other than myself. Granted there may be times when unannounced folks at the door may be a little inconvenient but it sure beats having coins ripped off out of caches or dropped in caches hidden so carelessly they are just asking to be muggled or vandalized. It will remain unpublished but the title will include a hint that players will be able to use to find the Cache.(they will not be able to log it though). I will place "Some" of my collection in there for discoveries, and will rotate coins in and out. I will also drop in some unactivated Coins. Quote

You can see an unpublished cache that you own, but no one else can, even if they have the GC number or a link for it. However others can see archived caches Quote
+Eartha Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 You can't have a cache approved for the purposes of archiving it. You would be wasting valuable volunteer reviewer time and resources. Quote
