1st find

Hi all a friend of ours spends alot of time on local moorland (Dartmoor) and has been trying for years to get us to join him on his walks on moors.

We heard about caching on TV but never thought anything about it until our friend bugged us so much I said OK but only if we do a geocache thinking he would say no not interested but he said never heard of it. After explaining the little we knew about it then looking it up on the net he said yes sounds good, so we registered picked a few caches that he thought the locations would be ok for my disablity.

Following day we set of for the walk using my Blackberry Storm and went to parliament rock, slightly cloudy and dreading the walk thinking it was going to be very uncomfortable with pain, walk was less than 1 km and to our surprise the blackberry took us straight to the rock which hid the container containing several goodies and a travel bug with a great view as a bonus. We signed the sheet and made our way back to the car then to the pub for lunch.

All in all, it was great and we really enjoyed it so much we cant wait to start doing more.

 

1st time I have walked that far in years just for pleasure.

It's funny you say that, because I live in Florida where the heat and humidy is just incredible... Walking 2 big dogs is such a chore... but now that we have Geocaching... yeah, 2, 3 even 5 hours I can spend outside getting DRENCHED and not think anything of it other than "we need more water!"

definately not a cure but did put huge smile on our faces and didnt even think about the pain until we got a few hundred yards back to car but didnt matter as we did it

Glad you're enjoying it so far and welcome to these forums.

 

The UK gained quite a few new geocachers following the item about geocaching on Country File a few months back. Dartmoor is one of the most scenic areas of S.W. England and I know there are plenty of caches around there to keep you occupied for a while.

Welcome to the game! As a person with some physical limitations myself I can tell you that it's a great past time for folks with challenges. I may not be able to climb a tree very well, but that's ok because there are still thousands of other caches I can enjoy. It's been a year that I've been caching and even though I have a little over 400 finds I still remember my first two finds just like it was yesterday.

 

If you are like me and and your memory isn't the greatest you may want to write longer logs than some folks do. I've found that by doing that when I go back and review my past adventures they've usually got enough details to refresh my memory. There's no minimum length a log should be, but I just wanted to throw the idea out in case anybody thinks it makes sense and wants to do it.
