geezfools Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 So I know I can't track anything here that isn't approved, yadda yadda. Basically I wanna make something, attach a number to it and have it tracked. Something like www.geofish.net . What are my options? All of these items will be hand made and and most likely come in a tiny ziplock bag with instructions on how to track. I see http://www.sigitem.com/ may be able to track them, but is there anything else out there? thanks! Quote
geezfools Posted August 16, 2009 Author Posted August 16, 2009 I'm not interesting in buying a couple hundred travel bugs. It's too bulky and the cost is way too high in my opinion(even for just one). I want to do something small and simple, very similar to geofish... Quote

An excellent way to track it's travels. Quote
geezfools Posted August 16, 2009 Author Posted August 16, 2009 I already listed a few reasons why I won't be buying a TB. A couple more: 1) People complain about these things going missing, so why would I risk that much money if it could be gone in a few days, forever. 2)I'm handmaking these items and they will be small, small enough for some micro caches, which there seems to be a TON of around here. Attaching a TB that's 4x the size of the actual item is out of the question really. 3)I'm not super interested in them travelling far and wide or have specific missions for them. I see why people do it and it's fun and I have a few TB's I'm about to help on their missions. This is more of a, if you wanna move this on to another destination, fine, if you wanna put it in a jar at home because you think it looks cool, that's cool too. Just looking to do something a little different. So yeah, just need to find a place to track them or someone with a script to help me do it on my own site. Quote
+Jeep4two Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 You could design a Pathtag (www.pathtags.com) and buy a few hundred. They are trackable at pathtags.com. You can specify that people move the tag from place to place, but since pathtags are considered a signature item typically offered to the finder to keep you may not see them moving as much as you may like. However the cost per tag is only about $1.00 so if a few folks choose not to move the tags as you request, it's not a great loss. Of course it's not hand made by you - but does meet most of your other requirements. Quote
+ras_oscar Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 also, if you want to track on your own site the object needs to be big enough to include instructions. Quote
