Banned from using www.geocaching.com or the Groundspeak forums?

,, it kinda depends on why the persons was banned in the first place to know what restrictions they might have..

It's so easy to get a new e-mail account and register for a new username, I don't see why not. Does Groundspeak block IP addresses? Even that is not foolproof - plenty of ways to get online these days.

how in the world do you get banned?

Good question. I have heard of a few people getting banned, but not quite sure how you would go about doing that.

BVnLJ: Are you planning to attempt this? Is it part of some strange challange cache?

lol

no not me....someone has been banned and now seems to be going to caches and removing geocoins and placing them in caches not of the geocaching.com "world". Since they are banned and not able to log their visits or retrieval of the geocoins taken the geocoins have to be pulled and marked as missing or placed back into the owners inventory until they make it back to a geocaching.com cache : (

This is probably someone who either already knows where the caches are, or is using a different account. Either way, this person is acting like the spoiled brat that has finaly been punished. Hopfully he falles off a cliff, and can no longer steel the geocoins etc.

Unfortunately this does happen

Thanks for giving us hope! What does that have to do with the thread, though?

I'm actually surprised this rogue behavior doesn't happen more. It seems a pittance to pay $30 for a premium membership when compared to the unlimited value of coins/swag you could potentially steal.

After stealing the coins and swag what would the perp do with it? Swag is almost always of little value and any coins swiped would likely be outed eventually if they showed up on ebay or c/l. Unlimited value = Not really.

Rogue cachers do happen from time to time. Pretty tough to identify and try to control. Muggles do happen from time to time. Pretty tough to identify and impossible to control.
