+cachingkam
Hi all. I just bought a Magellon Triton 500. Trying to send waymarks to my GPS and am redirected to this site http://www.geocaching.com/seek/sendtogps.aspx?wptid=1101725 with options for Garmin and DeLorme only. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help! Kim Edited May 4, 2009 by cachingkam Quote Link to comment
+Allanon
Magellan does not support the 'send to GPS' function at this time like Garmin and DeLorme do. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
You're out of luck with Magellan. Garmin and more recently, DeLorme have provided Geocaching.com with apps to facilitate the direct send to GPS. If Magellan ever decides to give a hoot about their customers, they will too. I guess your only avenue is to complain to Magellan and hope if enough people do, they will respond to customer demand. Don't hold your breath though. +natenrose
Download the GSAK program (free, just google it) and then you can download the waypoints to that. You can set your setting in GSAK and it will automatically format it for you. Then just send it over to your GPSr and there you go. Quote Link to comment
+JPatton
GSAK won`t work with a Triton. Magellan never released the transfer protocol specs for it. You`ll have to use Magellan`s Vantagepoint software to transfer waypoints or caches to a Triton. Quote Link to comment
+SkellyCA
Try this... You need to be a premium member to download gpx files. You can use either step 2a, 2b or 2c to get the caches from the website in VP. 1. On the page of a cache, click GPX eXchange File and save it to your hard drive; I organized mine into different folders, basically by city(I usually name them the same as on the website; make sure that the file name ends in .gpx) 2a. Upload the .gpx file into Vantage point; from Vantage Point software, click the library tab, select Import to import the file into VP; then select the file from your hard drive. You can only do one file at a time, pain in the butt. 2b. To import multiple gpx files at once, open the folder that contains the gpx files and open VP; click the library tab, then select geocaches(reasure chesat icon). Select the files(hold down CTRL and click the ones you want; then drag them into VP 2c. Create a Pocket Query; unzip zip it; then import in into VP. 3. Transfer the file to GPSr. Connect your unit the the computer via usb; then from VP, click the MyGps tab. Then Click Transfer From PC to My GPS on the left where it says Snyc. Then a window will popup and to can select waypoints or geocaches; I uncheck both boxes. Then click the plus sign next to geocaches; then chech the boxes next to all the caches you want to transfer; it'll do how many ever you select. Then click OK and let it do it's thing. What you will get on your Triton is… 1. Name 2. Cache Type 3. Coordinates 4. Distance from current location 5. Hint 6. Short Description 7. Long Description Quote Link to comment
+cachingkam
Skelly, thanks, it worked! And thanks everyone else, too. If I had known it would be this hard, I wouldn't have bought the Magellon. Oh well, live and learn. Going out tomorrow for the first time!! Kim Quote Link to comment
+SkellyCA
It's not hard after you've done it a few times. So don't worry Quote Link to comment
+gbrandon
As of 6/25/09, there is a better way. On Geocaching.com, check the boxs next the caches you are interested in (I usually just check the box at the bottom of the page that says "check all" so I can get all the caches around me, and if there is a certain cache I dont like (eg, puzzle cache) ill uncheck those ones manually. Download the .loc file to your computer (I put the file on my desktop) Download latest Vantage point, 1.60 On the top toolbar, click Exchange icon, but pick Import, not export. It will ask for the .loc file. Simply point it to wherever you saved the .loc file you downloaded from geocaching.com. In my case, its DESKTOP. It will import the .loc file with all the geocaches. Then just click the sync button and it will sync the caches to your magellan gps. Just note, the .GPX file has way more detailed info. With my way, you wont get anything but the name of the cache and the location. If you want hints, last found, etc, you need to do it the way someone listed above. newt05
once the waypoints are downloaded to computer, how do i connect gps to computer inorder to sync? Quote Link to comment
Motorcycle_Mama
What GPS unit? What software on the computer? What kind of computer operating system? Quote Link to comment
brunodog
Actually it is not that hard. There are a number of ways to do it including using the GeoCache Manager that Magellan sent with your GSP. The way I do it though is using a small shareware program called EasyGPS. (Download at http://www.easygps.com/, install it and configure it to your Magellan device from the lists built in to the software). When you want to save geocache information for uploading to your Magellan GPS, select 'LOC Waypoint File'. You will be asked to save or open. Either will work. Open for uploading right now, save for uploadin later. The software converts it in the .gs format Magellan uses and you are all set. Quote Link to comment
