+pppingme
A couple questions about the Oregons. Is the 300 the same unit as the 400's except for the included maps or are there other differences? Is the "share wirelessly" feature something that's Garmin proprietary or is it based on any type of standard like bluetooth? Can you load any of Garmin's street maps and do they do routing? +Red90
Yes. Yes, sort of. They use the "ANT" protocol, http://www.thisisant.com/ which is owned by Garmin. It is used on other things, but is not common. Yes, if the maps are routable, they route... Quote Link to comment
+g-o-cashers
http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Product+Information#toc7 http://garmincolorado.wikispaces.com/Wireless#toc3 (Oregon and Colorado are the same so this answer applies to the Oregon as well) You'll need to look at Garmin's site to determine which maps are autorouting and which aren't. City Navigator and Topo 24k are autorouting maps. Quote Link to comment
+bonstetten
Is the 300 the same unit as the 400's except for the included maps or are there other differences? Yes Is the "share wirelessly" feature something that's Garmin proprietary or is it based on any type of standard like bluetooth? The technology is called ANT, non Garmin proprietary: http://www.thisisant.com/ Can you load any of Garmin's street maps and do they do routing? Yes, but note that you use the actual maps, not them for "old" devices. This Maps are named "OF" (old Format). And the map should be support routing. +GeekBoy.from.Illinois
Is the 300 the same unit as the 400's except for the included maps or are there other differences? While the software features are the same except for the included basemap, there is one other minor difference that the wiki linked above tells you. This difference is in the amount of internal memory in the unit. The Oregon 300 only includes 1GB memory (about 850MB user available), where the Oregon 400t includes 4GB memory (about 1.25GB user available). This difference seems minor, but it is a difference and may matter to you. Quote Link to comment
