Garmin Oregon background screens

I couldn't find any info on this so I'm asking any Garmin Oregon owner: Can the pictures on the background screen be turned off (black or some other solid color) or are you forced to choose some pebble or basketweave image?

 

Another question: I have read the Oregon doesn't have the automatic day to night color changes like on the 60CSx. Can a night mode be "manually" selected?

1. I have simply uploaded a plain black and white image to the unit to use. I customised it by adding "if found, please return.." info to it as well.

 

2. no night mode exists.

Scott has a ton of backgrounds on his GPSFix.net website or you can make your own with a ownership watermark. An example:

I simply use different solidly colored 240X400 tiles. Like the borders by Scott, It really helps me to know which profile I'm in by the color associated with it.
