60CSX Question

Greetings,

I currently am borrowing a vista legend and when you use it for the most part the unit has to be level for it to work, or so it seems. With the 60CSX does it too have to be level or with the antenna such as it is, can it be in just about any position?

Thanks!

Only needs to be level for compass.

For the electronic compass to work correctly, both units need to be held horizontally.

Yes, a 2D compass.

Now some Magellans on the other hand have a 3D compass, you can hold it in any position, except for aobut +/-5 degrees of vertical, and it will work. But the calibration 'silly walk' is a lot sillier and takes a bit longer.

If you have the electronic compass on (where it will point in the right direction whether you are moving or not), then you have to hold the unit flat for it to function properly. If you turn the electronic compass off and just let it determine direction while you are moving, then you can hold it any way you want to. Also, if you are hiking you can hold the unit upright with the electronic compass on while on the trail, you just have to hold it flat when you want to get an accurate bearing toward the cache you are trying to find when you get closer. Hope this helps.
