Using the 60csx to Find a Cache

I am considering purchasing a 60CSX for geocaching and was wondering how most people who have one use it to find a cache. I've looked in the FAQ's and was not able to find a discussion on this. Do you use the electronic compass to point to it and follow it , or do you turn the electronic compass off and use the compass page with a regular compass and the "bearing in degrees", or do you use the map page with the electronic compass off and follow the line. I turn the electronic compass off most of the time, but still use the compass page for the last 100 ft or so before the cache. You don't need a regular compass. Even with the electronic compass off, you will still get the info you need (ie direction and distance to cache) from the compass page - it's just using the satellite info.

The 60CSx is an excellent choice for Geocaching. As a Premium Member, you can get Pocket Queries to cover a large search area. Since that is an 'x' unit, you can use Garmin's POI Loader, in conjunction with .gpx files to load thousands of caches as POIs, if you want to. The POIs can have more information than Waypoints, including the hint, if you Export the information from GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) using the "smart name" codes.

 

To get the most out of that GPSr, you'll probably want to purchase the City Navigator maps for auto-routing. If you don't need auto-routing, the Topo maps are helpful.

Some people like to home in on a cache by following the lat long coordinates, first N/S then E/W.

I always use the compass. However, I know that the closer you get, the less reliable the GPS's reported bearing to the cache becomes. Since this is the information used to orient the navigation arrow, (and the same information you would use with a handheld compass), once you're in right general area, you have to stop relying on the GPS's bearing, and just start looking around.
