Best TOPO maps for Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX

Looking to get a set of Topo Maps for my unit such as the Garmin topo 08. Iv heard mixxed reviewes about the maps and was wondering if anyone else has had issues with them or if theere are a better source of topo maps out there?

If you want to save some money, you could get the older Mapsource Topo maps on eBay. Those are the ones I have and they work just fine for hiking. If you get those, you need to download the Mapsource update and patch from the Garmin site.

 

If you want to print out Topo maps to take with you, the National Geographic TOPO maps are fantastic.

A lot of it depends on where you live and what you are looking for as far as the maps are concerned.As far as I know Garmin is the only one that offers topo maps that will load onto your gps that has complete USA coverage.The main problem some people have with them is they dont have as many contour lines as most paper topo maps.There are many areas where you can buy or get free topo mpas that people have made for the Garmin Gps units.Like Miragee said the topo maps from Garmin are not locked so if you buy a used set they will load fine on your GPS.

You can always go to http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/topous.jsp# and click on map viewer in the upper right to get and idea of what the garmin maps offer.

It definitely depends where you are at. I've index a lot of topo maps made by IndyJpr and one by myself. If you're in the states we've covered we offer a lot of detail for free. I have the "old" topo and 2008, the roads are more up to date in the new one but the dem shading doesn't show on the 60csx anyway so...
