+StarBrand
On all private property, you should seek permission before placing a cache. Quote Link to comment
Adam&Shell
ok i understand that but this is a walmart ive seen some in my area at other walley worlds just wondering if i need to ask Quote Link to comment
+Miragee
Isn't there some place more interesting in your area where you can hide a cache? Just because others have placed caches in the parking lots of shopping centers doesn't mean that type of hide should be perpetuated. Quote Link to comment
+gof1
I have asked for permission to place a hide on any business property I've used. I suspect that if you ask the manager of wally world you will be disappointed. Quote Link to comment

+TeamGumbo
well it was going to be my first so i figured somewhere easy then work my way into something alittle more trickier Tricky? I'm new, too...my first hide was a puzzle cache in a camo'ed nano container. I found a lamp post WalMart cache once and thought it was pretty clever (I had never seen nor heard of them), but most folks around here consider them *the* poster child of geocaching cliches. +Kiwi Nomad
It doesn't need to be tricky. Imagine you are having someone from out of town, even another country come to stay with you. They know nothing about the area you live in. Where would you take them if you wanted to show them something a) historical scenic c) nice walk d) interesting That is where I would ask that you think about placing a cache so that when I come to your town I don't just get taken on a tour of mall carparks. If I want to find a shop I can use the telephone directory, it is harder to findout interesting places to visit when in a strange town. It is not just about the numbers. Quote Link to comment

+Kiwi Nomad
Try these sites for ideas http://www.hickorygov.com/history/ Has a link historic places as well as a link for newcomers and tourists. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hickory,_North_Carolina Did you know Hickory has a sister city - Altenburg, Germany http://www.10best.com/Hickory/index.html Has links to attractions, parks, museums and lots of other places. Or another idea which I know one of the hight geocache placers in New Zealand does and that is have some cache already to be placed in your car when ever you go out (oh and your gps) That way when you happen to be in the area for something else (and close enough to home to maintain it) and you think the spot worthy of a cache you can grab the correct size cache for the site and place it. Then you just need to do the page up when you get home, easy as. Edit as I didn't proof read it properly before submitting first time. Edited April 12, 2008 by Kiwi Nomad Quote Link to comment
+Pod-Cache
I have just recently placed my first cache, a multi. The second I am currently planning is going to be a puzzle cache. Both are on seldom used scenic walking trails in our city. In my opinion, a cache should be placed somewhere somebody would want to go regardless of whether there is a cache there or not. I don't think you need to "work up" to something when it comes to hiding. You "work up" to finding caches, ie start with a couple 1/1.5 star caches, then try some 3/4 start caches and see what works best. I think there should almost be a minimum number of finds before hiding a cache. Quote Link to comment
fishdirt
Fact (at least in Michigan) 4 foot from any paved road is city/county/township property. If it doesn't impede on the fire department (hydrants) or a utilities company it's good to go. Avoid sticking them in ditch connecting pipes as well. In fact, that's a bad idea altogether because that just leaves grass Naw some trees are around. Quote Link to comment
Mr.Yuck
ok i understand that but this is a walmart ive seen some in my area at other walley worlds just wondering if i need to ask I'm surprised no one has mentioned the timeless guide to hiding your first cache right here on geocaching.com. It could just be me, but if I read it, I probably wouldn't hide my first cache in the Wal-Mark parking lot. Quote Link to comment

If it doesn't what's suggested on that webpage works pretty good. That is, walking away serveral times, and taking the average of all the marked waypoints. Quote Link to comment
