cacster
The Friends of Mount Douglas Park are looking for volunteers to help remove invasive species from Mt. Douglas Park (Victoria, BC). Currently, we are tackling Garlic Mustard which has taken a firm foothold in the park. The challenge is to remove as much as possible before the plant flowers. A single garlic mustard plant can produce hundreds of seeds. Some information on Garlic Mustard can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garlic_mustard Fortunately, the plant is easy to remove. We just need people to help. All tools will be provided. We meet on Thursday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. If you are interested, please meet at the Glendenning parking lot at 9:50 am. (map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=48....02414&z=16) If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Mark (mcacovic@gmail.com) or Judy Spearing (jandd_spearing@shaw.ca). And while you are in the park, you can search for the many, many caches hidden here! Thank you. Edited March 31, 2008 by cacster Quote Link to comment
Juicepig
If you could convince the reviewers that Garlic Mustard (mmmmm.. Garlic Mustard ... ) is a "trash" species, you can probably make a CITO event out of it Quote Link to comment
ibycus
If you could convince the reviewers that Garlic Mustard (mmmmm.. Garlic Mustard ... ) is a "trash" species, you can probably make a CITO event out of it There have been a few CITOs organized with an invasive species removal goal (I'm thinking of wavevector's "Triffid" caches). +Landsharkz
cacster - the CITO idea is great, especially with this being CITO season. We all love to go geocaching on Mount Doug and I'm sure you'd get a strong local turnout, especially on a Sunday. We have some CITO stuff here that we could donate if you think you need enticements... Quote Link to comment
cacster
OK, I have been convinced that a CITO event would be a great idea! Landsharkz - thanks for the CITO swag offer. I will definitely take you up on the offer. I am looking to hold the event in about 2 weeks (April 19), but still need to iron out a few details. Thanks for the input! Quote Link to comment
Juicepig
remember to talk to your reviewer as soon as possible - 2 weeks might be the earliest that they can publish a CITO (maybe not, I am not sure) Quote Link to comment
Huntcliff
I'm available to help - Sorry I missed today, just found this thread now. I live close by and can make it most times. Is Sunday still happening, or are we going the CITO route? Maybe post this on VIGPS forums as well? Quote Link to comment
Landsharkz
Just checked in again... we can blitz the Garlic Mustard on the 19th or 20th. If you submit the listing today (2 weeks in advance of your chosen weekend) there's a chance mtn-man will get to it because he seems to be listing Blitz caches multiple times daily ( ). Could it be a Blitz cache? No micros are allowed, but they didn't say no events BTW... mtn-man if you're reading this... you da' man!! Thanks for all your hard work! +cacster
Hi all! I submitted a CITO event, but it was rejected due to too many "red flags." I will try and resolve these issues, but it will take some time. So it looks like April 20 is CANCELED. If any one is interested, you can still come out individually. We meet Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from 10-12. Thanks for your support! Quote Link to comment
