+Deep Search Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Dumb question maybe... but do you activate a F.T.F coin for the finder or leave it unactivated as a reward for them to do whatever they want with it? Is it a keeper or a mover? Quote

Is it a keeper or a mover? I have seen it done both ways, but leaving an unactivated FTF prize seems more common. Quote
+Landsharkz Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 If it's intended as a FTF prize then it should be unactivated so they can keep their prize if they want to. If it's activated then it's not really a prize because activated coins in caches are meant to travel not keep. They may choose to activate it and release it or the finder may want to treasure it and hang onto it. By leaving it unactivated you give them that option. Quote

+LadyBee4T Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Dumb question maybe... The only dumb question is the one that's not asked....... I agree with the responses above. If its meant as a prize then leave it unactivated so they can decide what to do with it. The first one I received I activated it and it is now used to track my mileage. I have found a couple more and they are treasured and labeled in my binder as a FTF prize but I have not activated those. Quote
+dflye Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I've left trackable coins as FTF prizes in caches I've placed, all have been unactivated so far. I guess if I left an activated coin of my own, I'd leave some HUGE calling card saying to contact me so I could adopt the coin to the finder. Quote
+Deep Search Posted March 18, 2008 Author Posted March 18, 2008 Thank you for all your answers, leaving it unactivated is what I was thinking I should do. So thanks. Quote
+earthrooster Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 (edited) I leave them unactivated. I have a few in containers ready to be hidden the next time I'm home with some spare time Edited March 19, 2008 by earthrooster Quote
+grahamnorris63 Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Is the principle the same for specific FTF tokens or coins. I'm just about to place my first cache and have a FTF in the box. I thought they were an intensive/thank-you, and didn't think that these token were meant to travel? Quote

I have left coins as a "gift" or "reward" for the FTFer and leave them unactivated so that they can do whatever they want with them. Quote
+crunchewy Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Thanks for asking this question, because I was unsure what to do too. I'm thinking of making my first hide and this and the responses were very helpful. Quote
+PinkGloomyBear Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 This would be a great thread to have pinned for people who are thinking about making their first hide. I'm just starting out on my own Geocaching, have only tagged along before, this was definately one of my questions. Thanks for the info. Quote
