AZcachemeister
I just happened to run across this in my back-yard: PHOENIX TUCSON AWY BCN O DU2166 current NGS datashet. DU2166 GC.com Benchmarking page. A Geocacher who clicked the wrong radio button when reporting? An NGS employee who also geocaches, and is trying to tell us some news about reporting intersection stations? Quote Link to comment
+frex3wv
I am not sure about this one. Since the mark is not really explained, its hard to tell how to report this one. As best as I can tell - the point was usually the beacon light at the top of the tower - if that were the case it could easily be classified as destroyed. Without info on where they measured - its probably best left as a note. Quote Link to comment
CallawayMT
AZ, I think you are right about the geocacher that pushed the wrong radio button. I doubt that any NGS employee would waste their time submitting a recovery on this; and even if they did, I can't see them calling 4 legs of an extinct beacon as a recovery. My 2 cents, CallawayMt Quote Link to comment
+shorbird
I agree with CallawayMT, and for the same reasons. Quote Link to comment
+Klemmer
Yep. AFU. DaveD? You there? I suggest the NGS should delete that log. Part of our self-policing services. Quote Link to comment
AZcachemeister
I am more than willing to go up there and refute the 'found' log (I need to do that anyway), but the issue still remains of a purported NGS recovery on the destroyed tower. Quote Link to comment
+seventhings
Someone at NGS is gonna be in hot water with Deb!!! Quote Link to comment
+cowpill
There was extensive discussion on the Geocaching side.......The airway beacon was used in early aviation as a navaid. The waymark would have been at the center of the rotating beacon. Since there is very few of these airway beacons left I would say if the rotating beacon is gone so is the waymark....but log as a did not find. Quote Link to comment
