+edscott
What do you do when your compass develops an air bubble? Go to Florida and it will probably go away. Actually its not really an "air" bubble. The liquid has contracted because of low temperature and no longer fills the housing so a small vacuum bubble appears.. or the outside pressure on the housing has become lower, probably because of high elevation, and the internal housing volume has increased slightly with the same result. So get warmer and lower and the bubble will get smaller or maybe totally disappear. If it isn't very large it won't hurt anything, but if it lies right against the needle it may deflect it just a bit. Holding the compass at a very slight angle so the bubble is not next to the needle prevents this as long as the needle is not scraping the inside surface of the housing. When the bubble is always present regardless of conditions, and has reached the size of a pea I trash the compass, or if it is a good one, buy a new housing. Quote Link to comment
+Jeep_Dog
Very funny but it is a legitimate question and I'd thought you would have answered in a slow and Zenful manner. Since JD blew you off, here's an answer from a blonde female backpacker. I didn't question legitimacy. Slow and Zenful had nothing to do with it. Perhaps I should have added thus for those missing an attempt at humor: Quote Link to comment
