Looks cool and there is a Geocache mode. I wonder if it's any better in Geocaching than Garmin? I think Garmin can improve a lot it's Geocaching mode and they haven't with latest models.

Maybe I should have wait a bit more before bying but I would have missed all the summer I guess.

I will keep an eye on it, thanks for the news.

Looks similar to the Meridian series which is a good thing. All of them have color touch screens, pricing looks good, even the color 200 is only $129 MSRP. The high end one includes a 2.7 inch touch screen, built in flashlight, unlimited storage, camera etc.. Uses new Vantage point software for mapping.

Maybe Magellan is making a comeback after it's disappointing Explorist series.

Thanks Vagabond. The Tritons sound really nice. The National Geographic Topos are awesome. I think Garmin has some real competition if Magellan beefs up their support. That is the one thing that would still make me a little skiddish. I can't wait to see them out there and to hopefully hear some great reports about them in these threads.

then place the same price Magellan is planning to charge.

Magellan is not charging anything, you can not buy a GPS from Magellan. From the Magellan website

We're Sorry

To provide you with better options and service in the future, we are making upgrades to our ecommerce infrastructure and cannot process purchases at this time. Please use our dealer locator to find Magellan products at a store near you, or we will be happy to process your purchase request on August 15th, when our upgrades are complete.

When you see the retail price crossed out, that is the MAP retail price. what a company calls the Minimum Advertised Price or MAP. When a dealer sets up an account with a manufacture they sign an contract not to advertise and item below MAP, unless the item is discontinued. This is a policy of Magellan and Garmin as well as many outher companies in the outdoor recreation industry.

For some reason an online dealer can have someone click to get the below Minimum advertised price, but if a brick and morter store should list the same price there account will be closed by the manufacture. I few years ago I got into a beef with Garmin regarding there policy when I was a buyer for a large GPS retailer. Garmin told me to bad. A brick and mortar store can have the lower price displayed in the store but not in an addvertisement.

That is why when you look at an online price ther is the Map and the real price.

I think you're missing the point, just like everyone else missed it on the other Triton thread.

A manufacturer says we are offering Product X at MSRP $349.99, which is generally the upper threshold price.

Then a retailer comes along and tells the public we carry Product X, which has a MSRP of $999.99, and we are offering it to you with a 66% off MSRP, at "Our Price" of just $333.99!

Now, you're telling me they are not trying to dupe the apathetic, uneducated consumers by making them think they are getting $600 off something, when in actuality, they are only getting a MUCH smaller percentage off TRUE MSRP?

You mean you wouldnt be PO'd if you'ld bought the above item, only to find out 35 days after purchase (general electronic returns are only 30 days), that that great deal you got was BS. That in reality you only saved $16, and 5 stores down the street actually have the same product where you could have saved, say $45....

I understand its a free market, and there are legit advantages and edges used by business to get ahead of the competition.

But this one is pushing the line of dishonesty as far as I'm concerned. I definately wouldnt buy from someone using this tactic.

OK, thats all I'll say on the subject. If anyone wants to discuss it more, lets start another thread. Thanx. [:P]

There is no MSRP listed on the Magellan web site.

In the press release they list what the Tritons will be selling for, It does not say those prices are MSRP.

When a retailer set a price for a new item and when they list a MSRP, the MSRP price is listed in dealer catalog.

Sileny Jizda post listed below

Funny how they list retail price, cross it out, then place the same price Magellan is planning to charge. Really who charges retail anymore? Charge more than Magellan you know where I'm buying.

Charge more than Magellan

Magellan is not charging any thing, Magellan does not sell to the public.

To list a Retail price that not many if anyone is going to actually charge, particularly if Magellan lists the same price Tiger is charging, is somewhat deceptive. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone that charges retail on anything these days. When it comes to retailers that use that typical type of 'advertising' I tend to shy away. Mainly because if they feel they have to make it appear that I'm getting some sort of exceptionally large savings when in fact they are charging no more or less than anyone else it calls into question everything they do from my way of looking at things.

List the rate you charge without the overinflated Retail many if any don't charge and I'll give a second look. Discount from the average charged price you'll have my attention. I shop smart with research, not by impulse on high ticket items.

The Triton series won't be out until sometime in September, and I imagine sales will be explosive. At this point, all is speculation.
