  1. ...didn't see the earlier thread. Sorry for the duplication. - C.
  2. I get an email newsletter from GPS Central in Canada. I'm not affiliated with them other than as a customer. They just put up an announcement for the Garmin Nuvifone. It looks more interesting for me than an iPhone. Lots of good geocaching features, multimedia, web browsing and messaging, and a nice design. Vapourware until q3 this year...Judge for yourself. Details at http://www.gpscentral.ca/products/garmin/nuvifone.html I know I'll be in the waiting list for this gadget - Craig
  3. Not this Garmin fan. Not after what I've read here about Magellan customer disservice. No way. What have you heard? I know a lot of people that own Magellans and they seem to be happy. The new Tritons do look very cool. They allow you to load National Geographic topos which blow away the Garmin topos. They have expandable memory and the Sirf Star III chips as well. I know they have my attention.... I am really interested in the new Triton line, But I had nothing but trouble with magellan products so I probably will never buy another one. That doesn't mean others haven't had great luck, but out of 6 magellan GPSr I have had 5 were defective in some way or another. Keep in mind that Magellan was (underline that "was") part of a larger company, and I suspect that the consumer customer support was not a top priority in the greater scheme of things. Magellan and the lines that we use are now independent and focused on our market space. I'll be keeping an open mind. I may have recently replaced my Merigold with a shiny new Garmin , but I'll be looking at the new Magellan models with interest. As a Canadian, I'll be interested in seeing what map offerings that they'll have for those of us on the other side of the US northern border. Cheers, - Craig
  4. It looks like only the top two models have the touch screen, which is a good thing. The mid-lower-end models will have the same chip set and functionality at what should be a better price-point. - Craig
  5. I've had between 8m and 2m accuracy over the past couple of days of random checking. I think the sat configuration relative to your location explanation is accurate, fwiw. Cheers, - Craig
  6. *Siiiigh*...and I just upgraded from a Magellam Meridian Gold to a GPSmap 60Cx 4 days ago The new Magellans sure do look purdy! I can't wait for the first reviews\. - Craig
  7. Old Sol has been very quiet recently, as we are at solar minimum. No major outbursts, flares, spots etc. I'm an avid amateur astronomer and solar observer, and I'm waiting for more solar action! On the other hand, earth has intersected a light solar wind stream (chance of aurora for Canada and Alaska) which could have some effect on the satellites. Current solar conditions and events are reported at www.spaceweather.com. Cheers, - Craig
  8. Check out http://www.gpscentral.ca/ and click on the "Ram Mounts" logo on the top right-hand corner. You'll be able to use the interactive tool to drill down to what you have. Based on http://www.gpscentral.ca/accessories/ram-meridian.htm, new what you have is between $33 and $45. You might want to keep it and get a suction cup mount for your car windshield. Mine is darned handy. Cheers, - Craig
