Goody2shooz
hiya everyone, i recently bought a garmin venture cx and i was wondering how i could download the waypoints: i have seen in one of the tutorials on this forum a section on haveing more than one poi database and as i looked through i noticed that they had the hints in the comments box on the garmin. when i download files with 20 pois in off this site, they have no details, yet when i download a single one, it has all the details (well, at least all the details are in GSAK). my question to you is, is there a way to download like, i dont know, 500 pois in one file, all with full details, compatible with garmin, and not as a pocket query? (im a premium member, but cant work the PQs) also, is there a program that automates this? where it will go online, and download the hints into the details? thanks, regards, goody2shooz Quote Link to comment
El Diablo
It can be done through GASK, but you have to configure the program and change some of the settings. I can't remember how right now. I'll go back and look and let you know if someone else doesn't answer first. El Diablo Quote Link to comment
StarBrand
Use Pocket Queries and GSAK - it will help get the info you need. Quote Link to comment
El Diablo
When you use GASAK go to "GPS" in the tool bar and choose "Send Waypoints". When that screen opens go to the bottom right where it says Change Waypoint description" in that box I use %dif/%ter/%hint. Also change the "Maxium characters to 80. Hope that helps. I'm sure thaere are others out there that can expound on this. El Diablo Quote Link to comment

I do it through PQ's but I'm sure there are other ways, but PQ's would be the best way. El Diablo Quote Link to comment
briansnat
Moving to the GPS Units and Software forum where the experts can help (not that El Diablo isn't, but there are more there ). Quote Link to comment
Red90
You need to get pocket queries to get the hints. For making POIs. From GSAK, export to GPX. Enter what you want in the note field such as %hint. Quote Link to comment
Goody2shooz
thanks very much for your help. lol now im faced with a new problem. it seems my garmin cant fit in the full hint in the note box is there any way to extend the length of the notebox? thanks again and sorry to be a pest Quote Link to comment
Red90
Notes for Waypoints are 30 characters maximum. Notes for Custom POIs are 88 characters, so are usually big enough. Quote Link to comment

robcaryh
I am new to pocket queries, where in there can you have the file include the hints? I dont see a switch for it. Quote Link to comment
Night Stalker
the hints are always in the pocket queries. You only need to have your program such as GSAK take advantage of them. Quote Link to comment
