+robcaryh
Howdy all I am thinking of getting the GPSMAP 60 for my first try into caching.I like it because it has the bigger antenna that I am reading does well in tree cover and even in the house.Any experiences with this? I would love the color version, but $250 is more in my price range. Quote Link to comment
+Chuy!
I have a Vista and a 60cs; I don't see a significant reception improvement under tree cover. Others will beg to differ. The processor is much much faster but the same as in the Etrex Cx models. Color does make a significant diferrence reading the monitor. But, if you can do without, you will enjoy the Map60. +leather-man
I have a Map 60C and I bought my son one also. I love it, what else can I say. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
You're confusing the Map 60 with the new Map 60CX units. The map 60's reception will be similar to that of the old Map 60C(s) units and not in the league of the new 60CX units (which have an advanced chip set). The Map 60 has a b/w screen and 24 megs of fixed memory. A better choice would be something like the eTrex Venture CX. The Venture CX has a color screen and expandibe map memory. With's Garmin's rebate on all X units, you can find the Venture CX for around $150 (with the rebate). That way you can spend the extra bucks on mapping software. From my experience the eTrex C units' reception, is a notch better than that of the Map 60 and older Map 60C(s), so you're getting a color screen, more memory and slightly better reception for about $100 less than a Map 60,.
