+kbootb Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I can't remember why, but some time ago someone asked about the rise of caching in the uk. I have used the date of each cachers first find to calculate the following. Sorry the formatting is 'odd' but the forum software looks like it accepts TAB when pasting in from excel, but when viewing it these are stripped out, so I had to manually lay it out with dots. month.......2001.........2002.........2003.........2004.........2005.........2006.........Grand Total Jan...........2...............63............182...........241..........410...........605...........1503 Feb...........4...............73............146...........234..........557...........495...........1509 Mar...........6...............76............180...........261...........585...........458...........1566 Apr...........3...............79............162...........349...........475...........863..........1931 May...........6..............64............173...........325...........511...........182...........1261 Jun...........14.............86............184...........261..........424............................969 Jul............11.............75............187...........322...........572...........................1167 Aug...........47............112...........233...........357...........615...........................1364 Sep...........61.............99............226...........277...........424...........................1087 Oct...........50.............84............159...........309...........643...........................1245 Nov...........47.............62............136...........254...........346...........................845 Dec..........46.............58............199...........282...........428...........................1013 Total.........297..........931...........2167.........3472.........5990.........2603.........15460 Quick interpretation to help you round the table. 297 people joined in 2001, 5900 people joined in 2005 The month with the most joiners is April 06 with 863 (May 06 is only 182 as I grabbed this data about a week ago) Quote
+The Southseakers Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Interesting stats. The population growth seems roughly linear over each year (exlcuding the first) with a step change in gradient occuring at December/January/Feb - does this simply refelect the number of people who got a GPSr for christmas? 2002: roughly 80 per month 2003: roughly 180 per month 2004: roughly 300 per month 2005: roughly 500 per month 2006: ??? The rate of growth seems to be roughly doubling every twelve months - so at this rate the entire UK population will be cachers in the next 10 years Another interesting set of stats would be the number of active cachers over time (i.e. the number of cachers who logged a find in the last 4 weeks) Quote
+davy boy Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I wonder how many are premium members? At $30 a time can't be bad!!!!!! Quote
barryhunter Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Another interesting set of stats would be the number of active cachers over time (i.e. the number of cachers who logged a find in the last 4 weeks) this page in cachetools almost tells you that, (the number of cachers logging at least one cache by month) Quote
Deego Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Wow 2 caches found in 1996 Somebody has a time machine Quote
barryhunter Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 someone playing silly b******s This just demonstrates that you can choose ANY date you like when posting a log on a cache. This was written at 15:05 GMT, 14 Feb 2006 Quote

This was written at 15:05 GMT, 14 Feb 2006 Same goes for placed dates, I think. I once thought of placing "Shakespeare's first geocache", with a placed date somewhere in the 1600's, but then thought better of it! Quote
