+cary1952
What is the point of have a huge memory card? I read that if you have more than 50MB of maps turned on, the the refresh rate of the 60CSx is very slow. Is this true or not? Not to mention, if you have a 512 MB card that can hold 1000 maps, you would have to find the right maps to turn on and off all the time. This could be several hundred if you are flying across the country or taking a long car trip, whether it be TOPO or CS or a combination of both. I have loaded all of the TOPO maps onto my hard drive. There are over 3500 maps taking up approximately 1700k. Theoretically it could all fit onto a 2GB microSD chip, but how would you mangage it? Even 1000 maps on a 512MB card seems unmanagable, whether thay are TOPO maps or City Select maps or both. It seems to me it would be better to have multiple small cards. The downside to this is that they are more expensive, and a pain to change, and you could lose them. So how hard is it for a large filled card to be used? Any comments from users of these large cards (128- 512MB) who have used them filled or near filled or anyone that has any thoughts, I would appreciate it. Cary in S.D. Quote Link to comment
+whitecrow
I have 380meg of maps on my 60cx, I don't see a problem with refresh. Probably as fast as my old Legend with only 8meg. Quote Link to comment
rynd
I don't have an x model I have an GPSMap 76cs, so I may not have a clue what I'm talking about, but: Why would you need to turn off individual maps. I turn on and off map sets occasionally to switch between Topo or city nav. but I leave all the maps in a set on. Quote Link to comment
+jotne
If you have lots of map loaded, like Bluechart CityNavigator Topo +++ GPS becomes some slow if all map is set to show Hide all maps that you do not use speeds up the GPS Also if you show all map at the same time, only CityNavigator are shown on the screen. Its priority between maps so Topo is 3, BlueChart is 2 and CityNavigator is 1 So remember to hide map not in use. Quote Link to comment
rynd
I knew about the priorities and I usually turn of the Set I'm not using but I haven't noticed any speed difference. Of course I'm limited to ~116 megs total and I guess using a large card could make a difference. Quote Link to comment
+Digital Louie
I've got a 60CSx and a 512 card jammed full of City Nav 7.0 and Topo both showing all the time (I didn't know about the priroities). I have not seen a slowdown in the maps at all. It's either not ther, or I'm oblivious to it's speed. Either way it works great and I recommend the larger card. I have everything from Colorado westward in Navigator and Utah and Idaho in Topo. Quote Link to comment
+Quoddy
NO slowdown! With a loaded out 512mb card my 60CSx is still visibly faster than my 60CS which has a tenth of the memory. Quote Link to comment
+cary1952
im glad to hear no slowdown from many of you. I dont know why the other thread said definate slowdown above 50MB. Any users out there who do notice a slowdown? Quote Link to comment
