VernalisBirdman
Hey folks, I am new to this, but competitive as anyone. How do you find out about newly placed caches in your area, or in ana area you are about to go to? Is there a notice that you can trigger to tell you when a new cache has been placed within ____ miles of your home location? Thanks for any and all info!! Quote Link to comment
+JDandDD
You have to be a premium member first. Then you get an option to set up pocket queries and notifications. The notifications are what you are looking for. Don't get too competitive. Its not a competitive sport. Have fun! JDandDD Quote Link to comment
+Kai Team
The place to go: Premium Membership Subscription page. Scroll down to see the payment options and features you get. Quote Link to comment
+TEAM DESERT EAGLE
ONCE YOU ARE A PREMIUM MEMBER YOU CAN SET UP NOTIFICATIONS. THIS IS FOUND ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE MY ACCOUNT PAGE. SET THESE UP AND YOU CAN BE NOTIFIED WHEN A NEW CACHE IS APPROVED THROUGH YOUR EMAIL. YOU CAN ALSO SET THE MILES THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO DRIVE TO GET AN FTF. Quote Link to comment

+Chuy!
I guess I'll be the first to answer your question. On the home page, type in your zip code in the top right corner; the unfound caches will not have a found date. After a while you'll be able to figure out the routine of your administrator and view your area during certain "peak published" times. Yes, premium membership makes it easier, but it's not impossible. And yes, geocaching is not designed to be competitive, but as in any other facet of life, it adds a little spice to things! Being FTF against premium members will only make the find that much sweeter; good luck and have fun. Edited January 22, 2006 by Chuy Quote Link to comment
VernalisBirdman
Thanks gang, I appreciate the help. Eventually I'll have to become a premium member I guess, but I'll wing it solo for now, improve my skills. And trust me, I am not only getting into this to be the FTF. I just think it would be cool to actually be the one sometime. Cheers! Quote Link to comment

+Night Stalker
Depending on where you are caching you might find this FTF thing to be more competitive then you imagine. Think of your fellow cachers being out a 3 am just so they can be first to the cache. Luckily the cachers in my area are not quite so insane. Quote Link to comment
+blindleader
Ooh, have you picked a nasty area to try for FTFs. I assume your interest is prompted by the high pitch of the FTF competition in the city of Seattle. If not... Well either way, you're in for a humbling experience. As the original Tiresome Usual Suspect, I can tell you that if you don't sit at your computer minute by minute watching for new caches, you'll need instant notification by email on your cell phone, along with a willingness to head for the door as soon as the phone rings to be in the race for most of the new caches around here. I get FTFs only by the chance of fortunate timing anymore. edit: The way to watch for new unfound caches on the cheap (and cumbersome) is to bookmark This page. VernalisBirdman
Well, I didn't pick Seattle for that, I just live here, . However, I will be doing some traveling, and who knows where I will ultimately end up? It was more a curiousity than anything. If there are people been doing this a while, have way more time and toys, then I'll let them all ne the FTFers. I can live with that. Quote Link to comment
+The Cheese Eaters
I set up a notification but then my eMail broke, oh well ... Quote Link to comment
