  1. I use the iPhone 4 and have never done a Wherigo cache other than tag along with someone else. I have done three of them now and one Wherigo had 2 zones on bridges but I didn't even have to lean over a railing for them to fire. The last one that I just completed was 41 stages and it took about 25 minutes to complete. The app ran just fine for me and counted down distance right along with no hang up's. Acuracy was great and I was very impressed. Thanks for the app, I will make sure to write a review in the app store. My only question was the completed cartridge??? Where is it when the Wherigo is complete. Maybe an update further down the road will alow this feature to work.
  2. I'm interested in knowing the caching name of the mom and brother. If this mom and brother were with this new cacher, I would assume that they would have been on this forum letting us know that their sibling was wronged. We would also have some credibility to this story if the "mom and brother" had a caching name inserted instead of just being called "mom and brother". Oh yah, I too deleted the log of "tencentdeposit" after seeing no name in logbook or getting no explanation from the cacher logging the find.
  3. having it with you all the imte would be the only advantage for me. the update lag is where I can see some inaccuracy taking place. If FTF is you favorite fairyland...then you will always be in fairyland with a smile on your face. Notifications anywhere you are is the key. Being that I do not care about FTF's, I am great with the Oregon400t. For someone who does not care about the FTF there certainly are a lot of posts about FTF. FTF is elusive. FTF is fun. FTF is hard to get. FTF FTF FTF always posts about FTF. What does FTF mean anyway. First to find that coords are off? First to find that the cache has not been placed yet? First to find that a cache is 60 miles off from the posted coords? First to find that cache is on private property? First to find that you need to wade through a swamp? First to find a stage missing? First to find that a cache is way up in a tree? First to find that a cache is in the middle of a lake? There is never a great benifit involved in FTF just plain fun and thats what this sport is about FUN!!
  4. but I am there for the cache...not for a meet and greet. Really? - you don't want to meet other geocachers? I quess somebody sent out a 911 since GVSU4MSU and Johngie are suddenly in the forum. Please undrstand; I am blessed to cache with my CHILDREN, and my fellow caching buddies with their CHILDREN. Therefore, hypothetically ---> It feels creepy to me to go to the yard and home of a person who: has a free account, that has posted an invitation on the internet to come look around their yard, and around their garage whil they and their neighborhood watch? Along those lines, I have neighbors. I like to be a little more considerate toward them. I am talking about ME, WHO-DEY and based on the replies on this thread, others as well. I have met many cachers. I have met them in many different ways. They/we are an awesome positive, fun, adventurous, large group, with a few exceptions. And those exceptions have unfortunately tailored my (and locally others) attitude. Some cachers, are not completely sane, are irrational, self glorifying, petty, ignorant, dishonest, angry, and threatening to those they oppose. So the mix of random cachers is not 100% in a direction that I am comfortable digging around a random person's yard with my family at my side. It is just creepy. Are you talking about this thread? or the forums in general. Man all these generalities really confuse me..... (if you notice, I have been around a while. I just prefer to go out geocaching than to post here. It is way more exciting to me) I am not sure where you are caching, but those are some strongs words relating to cachers. I hope there are non of those "types" where I cache. GVSU4MSU - I know you have been around for a while. You are a busy cacher, no doubt. I have been to many of your caches. You are involved in MIGO as well..right? between work and a family, my time is devoted to elsewhere in large part. I love caching, and intentionally get out with my son and friends when I can. I also and stop as I drive around W MI taking the long way when I can to find some off route caches. And as I mentioned, "Yes", the above referenced adjectives are intended to refer to a local cacher around you and I. I am pretty confident you know exactly the local cachers I am referring to. They are strong words, I agree, but they are not overstated by any measure. And that is not only my perception, but other local cachers as well. Possibly I do, if they are who I think you are referring to but I guess since I have met them in person I have no issues with them. I guess people are people..... Therefore you likely only know his side of the abuse and threats he has spewed at other cachers, myself included. You should see the emails threatening both me and my family. I am not the only one he has done this to. You can say people are people ... but that gives no license to be abusive to others with no provocation. Can you, as his friend, really tell me that he has not caused any issues locally to others? I dealt with this with GC.com/Groundspeak. Per their direction he can no longer email me, address me in the forum, and must avoid all/any contact in general toward me. I know you and John are his friends. That is great....you both have done loads to help the hobby grow and sustain itself here in West Michigan. You should report all threats towards you and your family to Groundspeak, that's not tolerated at all.
  5. The picture was taken at GC128QR a 5 star diff cache yet was found in about 3 minutes using an iPhone. NOW THATS ACCURATE
  6. The iPhone 3Gs uses an independant gps chip so even without celular signal to triangulate your coordinates you can easily find a cache. I use nothing but the iPhone to find caches (NOT JUST FTF CACHES, GOOD WAY TO TAKE A CHEAP SHOT AT THOSE WHO CAN GET THEM THOUGH "WHO-DEY") and have nothing but the best results. Usualy when at a cache the iPhone says 1-2 feet away, I think thats incredibly accurate. I dont think that Groundspeak would have gone through the trouble of developing an app (JUST FOR FTF HOUNDS) that would not work great on a phone if they had not researched the phone capabilities first. Note that the iPhone says 5 feet away from the cache location and the small tube in the ground where the cache is located, (in the middle of an outfield at a baseball field). My disagreements with the statements made in the quote have been made. I also would like to see the caches placed by an iPhone that the coords are way off, I will go out with the iPhone and a garmin60csx and take pictures of how accurate (or not) these caches are. Any GC numbers to back this quoted statement????
  7. Yup can't hardly go wrong with that one, unless a cache owner sends you an email saying " edit your log and give more detail or I will delete your log"
  8. Whatever the case may be, with Groundspeak or the cache owner, I am going to continue caching with my kids and having fun. It's just strange that the other cache owners have not had these same problems.
  9. Maybe they are just upset that I got FTF on the 5 caches published this morning. Three of these were their caches.
  10. Good will is cumulative. You used all yours up on the other caches. It caught up to you on this one. Now it's up to you to decide to ignore this owner and avoid probelms, or to start the long road to earning back the respect you lost, that caused you to have this problem now. Take a look at my logs all 5000---They realy are the copy and paste logs that everyone seems to hate. However this cache owner seems to dislike these to a point of threats of deletion of the log unless edited.
  11. Yes but still in the past there was no arguing only the threats I received that my logs would be deleted, unless I did some editing of the logs.
  12. It appears the cache owner did. Or maybe they didn't. Discrepancies like this causes others to speculate like briansnat did earlier. These threats were on other caches of theirs that I had found not this cache. No contact was made on this cache by the cache owner.
  13. My question still is: where am I arguing with the cache owner?? Look at their cache logs, where do they say that they use the Android phone??? My argument is with the Verizon people who told me that the Android phone would do everything that the iPhone would and in fact it was lacking in every way. I thought I would be blown away by this "great" phone that they advertise but instead I was left frustrated and disapointed.
  14. That was my thought too. And why bring it to the forums? If you want to know why Sandy wrote that, ask Sandy! I have sent two email replys with multiple questions. My emails seem to be ignored. No responce. Thats also the question that I asked?? Did the cache owner make up a good story about "contact" or "arguing" to Groundspeak?? Thats what confuses me. Sandy told me in the email to use the forums, thats what I am doing here.
  15. I invite anyone to show any other contact made between myself and the cache owner in regards to this cache or cache log. There was no contact I didnt know they had a problem with the log I simply got the email from Groundspeak.
  16. Still not sure how the log is an argument?? Also the only contact ever between myself and the cache owner is when they emailed me with threats to delete logs of mine.
  17. Why is it acceptable for other cachers to sign their log at the end every time that they find a cache with the brand and model of the GPSr or multiple GPSr that they own and use to find caches.
  18. Here is the same cache log for all caches found that day and only complained about by the owner of the GC2238G cache. December 20 by TEAM DESERT EAGLE (5001 found) After seeing a promo for the Android Phone at the big "V" I decided to sign up to see what all the hype was about. Being assured that within 30 days if not satisfied I could return the equipment and cancel the service I decided to give it a try. Now I have cached with the iPhone and the iPhone does it all from the time a new cache is published to the time of signing the logbook there is no other equipment needed. This morning two caches nearby were published and the Android phone gave me the same info that I always get on the iPhone, just that it came in two hours after the caches were published and the cache page took forever to load. I decided to go out anyways and see what I could do by just using the phone, needless to say the OS on the Android is slow and cumbersome and there is no way to find a cache without a stand alone GPS unit. All said and done I did find the cache but needed to dust off my Garmin 60csx for the find. I have since returned the Android p.o.s.and will continue with the far superior iPhone with a faster processor, and its apps for finding geocaches. Thanks for placing this cache, it was a good cache to try with the new Android equipment. TEAM DESERT EAGLE - trying to cache Droid Style. FTF FTF FTF FTF (Fourth to find) [view/edit logs/images] [upload an image for this log] Here is the request to edit the log. Dear Scott, This email is in regards to your log on the cache page for GC2238G. Simply, stop arguing with this cache owner. Do not post argumentative and rambling logs on this cache owner's cache pages, and do not contact this cache owner again. Please edit the exiting log, and in future restrict this type of commentary to the forums, as cache pages are not for commentary. To that point, a similar log was posted on GC2248D. Please edit both logs as soon as possible. Sincerely, Sandy ----------------------------------------------- Groundspeak - The Language of Location www.geocaching.com www.Waymarking.com www.Wherigo.com Ticket Details =================== Ticket ID: GKD-650806 Department: Cache Appeals Priority: Medium Status: Open What I find strange is that I never contacted this cache owner, argued with the cache owner, and have no intentions to contact them. I also find it strange that Groundspeak calls this log argumentative.
  19. Clan, I know I am new here and so should shut up, and don't take this the wrong way, but dude get over it. We know that you feel GS called him a liar in public. However time to move past that point and get to the point of if there really is/was a cache. As to your analogy of the school teacher I think it is more like this. "Johnny, you said you did your homework but I think you didn't so you are getting an F." Well then Johnny reaches into his folder and pulls out the homework that he did and proves the teacher wrong. Johnny does not say, the next day, well you hurt my feelings so I burned the homework last night at 2 am. To the CO, man you had your chance to rub Gs's nose in it. You should have take a video of you walking up to the cache and pulling it off the brick. Then post it on you tube for all to see. However by saying that you removed the cache at 2 am? Well that just does not sound right man. This is just to funny to pass up!!!! Too you day walkers 2am may sound strange, but on the other hand have you ever heard of a third shift?? Yes thats right friday night is my saturday and by 2am I was to my limit of hours for the week so I came out and removed the cache. To me it is perfectly normal but I can see how it might seem strange, and this is why I think that questioning 2am is funny..check my posts and you will see that I post throughout the night whenever I get a chance to pry myself from work. And the reason you did not take pictures or video with your iphone is.............. Um ------ Its dark????

  21. Since this all began I have done everything asked of me, still the cache was archived. I remember when I placed GC109C2 I had one of the reviewers e-mail me and say that cachers have been complaining that my puzzles were to complicated and some they beleived to be unsolvable and until I could tell him the solution to this one he would have to say no to publishing it. I called him on the phone within minutes of getting the email and in less than a minute he was laughing at how easy the puzzle was. The cache was then published only moments later. When asked by a reviewer or Groundspeak for info I have always made it my best effort to promptly respond. However you all that request a picture have no authority to ask for a picture, by asking for a picture you have already made your assumption of guilt. If I ever decide to try and rehide this cache the only thing keeping any resemblance of a secret is the actual look of the cache thus I will not post a picture. Right now this whole discussion is over for me. Groundspeak and I have had our differances of opinion in the past and I believe that we have worked past them - this too will pass. If I had relisted the cache with the same coordinates under a different name the reviewers in this area would have refused to publish it knowing that Groundspeak had just archived it. Once again I was mad at the decision to archive, what I think was the ultimate hide of mine, but in the end it doesnt matter what I think. The only thing that matters is that I can go out and find caches freely and without the trouble of this cache anymore. Thanks everyone who has supported me in this forum. To those of you who do not believe me - well thats not my problem and since I dont come here often because of the continued drama over everything I'll probably never run into any of your opinions again. Peace to you all - and Cache on my friends.
  22. Because everyone is out to get you and remove your perfectly logical, eloquent, level-headed remarks that you made when you archived it. There are still 248 caches left to pick apart How many are still active? Yup your right 401 finds and 31 hides vs my 5325 finds and 255 hides You are obviously much more experianced and finding and hiding caches than I am..
  23. Because everyone is out to get you and remove your perfectly logical, eloquent, level-headed remarks that you made when you archived it. There are still 248 caches left to pick apart How many are still active? Slightly off topic now but yes at some point caches do run their course and get replaced by new caches. Point is that I had a very creative cache that was archived and I am the one who needs to deal with it. Because I feel wronged by the decision to archive my cache and offended by being called a liar, thats why I am not going to place any more caches.
  24. I wasn't aware of that guideline. Got a link?I know there's something in the guidelines worded to the effect of, "A GRPr must be used to obtain the coordinates for any hide, but I didn't know Groundspeak requires that we use a GPSr to find the things. I know there will be many folks in here that would be sorely disappointed by such a guideline, as they take great personal pride in finding caches without modern, high tech gadgets. The paragraph in question is: That last sentence means that there must be at least one stage of the hunt in which, if the seeker wishes, they can use their GPSr. For example, a Traditional cache always allows this, because even if the listing says "the cache is on the statue in the middle of the square", you could choose to just follow the arrow. For a Mystery cache, you can't just say "park near the above coordinates, walk along the path to the east, and the cache is behind the fifth tree on the right", because you're not using the accuracy of the GPS. It's OK for the placer to give that information as well as a GPS-based way to find the cache, but there has to be the option at least. In other words, your cache description can't be a pure letterbox hunt. Or a picture of an iphone looking at an open field from 10,000 ft with no coordinates to enter into your gps. The whole idea was to get coordinates (if needed) from google earth. Not like what happened, coordinates were marked at the cache site by a cacher who I will not name, then they were passed out in a mass email which was shown to me by a different cacher.
