+borospeti
How would you define 'unique' or 'strange'? It may be hard to draw a line, some people may find a town name strange while it's perfectly normal for others. Peter PS: I guess these would be classified as strange by many: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/f***ing%2C_Austria and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell%2C_Norway Link to comment
+ha'oqev
This sounds like an interesting and fun topic. I hope it goes through. The criteria for determining "strange" will need to be made more clear. At the moment I'm not sure how you would do that. If "unique" is really what you meant, an unabridged gazateer can be used to determine if it is indeed. Link to comment
+Black Dog Trackers
You'll never be able to successfully define "unique" or "strange" well enough to have everyone understand and agree in any given contingency. For instance, a town named "Map" or "Grane" would be unique, and so what, but it would not be strange at all to those people who lived there or who had relatives there, etc. This is not to say that such a category couldn't exist or would not be fun. However, as a manager of a waymark category, I can predict that someone will take the trouble to drive to the place, take pictures, grab coordinates and submit a waymark for the town of "Grane" (in one state only) and you will decline it, saying that it isn't really so 'unique' (not amusing or cool), and the person will then write some email back or post in a forum in a rage. So, it will be a challenge both to define and to manage such a category. Edited January 4, 2006 by Black Dog Trackers Link to comment
