+Kealia
I just happened to click on the California link tonight -- there are now 20,000 caches hidden in that state. That's... alarming. Why? (Asks from California) Quote Link to comment
+GO West
Why is the number 20,000 alarming to me... I'm not really sure. As Anonymous points out, it is a big state. By size, but more importantly by population. So naturally it will have more cachers and cache hides. Guess I was alarmed because I could see in my mind the growth rate. Digging into the numbers, I found that for the 20k caches, the dates placed for 2001 through 2004 are: 700; 2200; 3880; 7480 There are 6120 dated 2005 - and it is only July! If the trend holds, there will be 12,000 caches or more placed this year alone. This is almost a model exponential growth pattern. Will there be 24,000 new caches in 2006? Will the admin be able to handle this rate? At what point does the game reach saturation? Quote Link to comment
+Kealia
Keep in mind both the population and the vast open spaces, mountain ranges, etc. that we have and you'll see that we are far from saturated. Given that there are a few parks that may be maxed out, there is still a LOT of unused space . Quote Link to comment
+GO West
Sure! I don't mean to pick on California, I love that state. Wish I could visit more often. Will check the numbers on WA later tonight. Quote Link to comment
