+wickedsprint Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 These are pretty good for those of you visiting iceland, includes the same topo detail we have become accustomed to, and they are FREE. http://www.ourfootprints.de/gps/mapsource-island_e.html Quote
+wickedsprint Posted May 31, 2005 Author Posted May 31, 2005 On edit, I got these to work, all of Iceland takes a bit over 1mb of memory, pretty nice how hekept the maps compact, we could learn from this guy! Quote
+wickedsprint Posted May 31, 2005 Author Posted May 31, 2005 oh well, would have thought more people would be interested in a free map *shrugs* Quote
CenTexDodger Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 I just saw your message. I am going to look at it even though I have no plans to visit Iceland. Quote

+wickedsprint Posted May 31, 2005 Author Posted May 31, 2005 But you have to admit, they are pretty impressive considering the guy made them. Quote

team tisri Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 oh well, would have thought more people would be interested in a free map *shrugs* A free map of Iceland isn't much use to me, given I have no plans to visit Iceland in the foreseeable future. Quote
+cron Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I cannot get these to show up on Garmin Basecamp. i am very new to using downloaded maps and a handheld GPS. Any tips? Some map providers will let you download an installation package or just the IMG version of it. This one is only offering the installation package, so you download, install and voilà. Don't forget to select the "Island-Topo" mapset from the drop down menu in Basecamp to see the maps. You can then select the tiles and transfer them to your GPSr. I found this map which is also free and based on the OpenStreetMap project. Both maps have contour lines and a lot of data (trails, hotels, campings, etc.), but the latter is routable. The best is probably to install both on your GPSr so you can benefit from all the POIs and routing capabilities. Quote
