+Turtletoes/Biggie
I would like to get a book that would explain WGS 84 coordinates in a way I can understand. I would like the book to explain adding and subtracting minutes. There are some caches where you have to go 2.84 minutes East. I always have to think and research. I would like a book to keep around the house. Any suggestions?? Found a good one at Barnes and Nobles but it was UTM format. Thanks for suggestions!! Quote Link to comment
+strikeforce1
WGS 84 I searched GC in: Getting Started and the result was 4 pgs. In all forums the results was 10 pgs. Or try Google, I got this return. Search Results for WGS 84 Results 1 - 10 of about 22,600. Search took approx. 0.23 seconds. SF1 Quote Link to comment
+Latitude 26
WGS 84 is a "datum". Latitude/longitude info is what you're looking for. Lat/Lon is a coordinate system, as is UTM - they're just different. You want to know how far 2.84 minutes (of longitude) east is. This link explains it to some degree (no pun intended!). It's calculating degrees (arc) to distance (miles, etc.). In your case, your latitude determines the value of .001 minutes of longitude, due to convergence of the meridians at the poles. Try googling latitude/longitude calcualtions & see what comes up. Good luck. JB Quote Link to comment
+Sputnik 57
Try GPS for Dummys. Lots of good map and long/lat info. Some of the map creation stuff is over my head, but it is a good reference. Quote Link to comment
