Dougmeister
How many feet are in 0.001 minutes? Looking at the FAQ here, I see that Latitudes are constant at 6.074 feet. At my longitude (77 or so), how can I tell how far each minute is in feet? I found my first cache (with lots of help yesterday at N 40° 15.251 W 076° 55.703. Advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks. +Stunod
To correct for the latitude, multiply by the cosine of the latitude. So at the equator, latitude = 0 COS(0) = 1 therefore the 6.074'/minute is the same. Near your location, lat is about 40 deg. COS(40) = 0.766 0.766 X 6.074 = 4.653'/minute And the other extreme: at the pole: Lat = 90 COS(90) = 0 Therefore there are 0 feet/minute at the pole. Makes sense, right? Tahosa and Sons
Before you get befuddled forget trying to measure feet. They are those things that carry you to a Cache. Get a good Mapping program. Then teach your self how to use UTM's Tahosa - Dweller of Mountain Tops. Quote Link to comment
