+DorothyMacaw
I just ordered a new GPS unit and am wondering what should I do with my old one. The new one is a 60cs and the old one is a Etrex Legend. Do I need a back up unit, or is that just redundant ? I can keep the Legend or sell it to some needy Geocacher. What do you think? Thanks in advance !! Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
If you have another geocacher in your family pass it on. I'd rather have a compass as a backup unit. If I'm lost and my GPS is dead the compass will do me more good and longer. As a bonus they don't take batteries. Some people like the idea of a backup GPS but that's just more junk to store or carry. Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
It depends on how addicted you are. If you lost or broke your only GPS, how long can you wait for it to be repaired or replaced? I bought the 76cs for the car, my Legend is for the trail. +RocketMan
I have had my 60cs for over 6 months and I did keep my old Vista, but I havn't used it once since I got the 60cs. I am still keeping it for that day when my 60cs dies and I need a backup. RM Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
It's a personal preference really. I put a lot more money into my eMap than I would ever hope to recover by selling it. So for me, it makes sense for me to keep it as a backup unit. If you want sell your Legend, you could probably recover a much higher percentage of what you spent on it than I could on my eMap. If you feel like it's dead weight, and you could use an extra $100 (that's how much they're goin' for on eBay), then by all means sell it. If you're really fond of it, have grown emotionally attached to it (nuthin' wrong with that!), or might find a possible use for a 2nd GPSr (visiting nieces and nephews), then it might be better to keep it. Look deep in your heart and you will know the answer to your question Edited October 18, 2004 by Neo_Geo Quote Link to comment
+Fitzdawg
You could always donate your legend to a local troop of Boyscouts or Girlscouts...several troops in my area participate in the sport. Quote Link to comment
Bobthearch
A backup never hurts, especially if you need a GPS for work. If I were you I'd keep the lighter-weight Legend for backpacking, when every ounce counts. Best Wishes, Bob Quote Link to comment
