12 Volt Adapter Problems....

Recommended Posts

Hi there I just bought a Meridian Gold gps and love it. I had to go buy the 12 volt adpter for it becaue I am using battries like crazy! :o But when I plug it into my cigarette lighter in the car it blows the fuses on the adapter. It’s a really weird fuse siz. From what it looks like it is a 1amp 250v fuse. I have tried two fuses with the dame outcome. It even blows if the gps is not hooked to the adpter. Do you have any ideas or thoughts on this?

Thanks

There might be an object lodged in the dash mounted lighter socket! it should be a 20 amper and might not "pop" when used with the cig lighter element. Check the socket and if it has debri in it (old butt ashes . pennies, dimes. get a new one.

with the cable un pluged you can use a TEST LIGHT to check for a short Connect the light to on terminal of the cig plug of your adaptor and the other to GND if it "lights brigt" it is shorted. There are electonics in there for voltage control and reduction.
