Warbones
I have a Magellan Meridian Color and was wondering how to disable WAAS and if there was a point to it? Quote Link to comment
+leatherman
To turn off WAAS on Magellan receivers try the following: From any screen press MENU Press right arrow, left arrow, right arrow, left arrow in sequence (you may have to do this a couple of times) A box with 00 in it appears. Use the up arrow key to change the "00" to a "03" and then press ENTER. A few boxes should pop up. Press ENTER to turn a "ON" to an "OFF" (all boxes will change simultaneously). Press ESC twice. Turn off the unit. Then, when you turn it back on the WAAS satellites should not be visible in the satellite screen (W's). Note that the boot screen will still say "WAAS." I personally don't see the point. They don't slow down like Garmins. They're designed to operate with it on. Quote Link to comment
Warbones
Ok, then. If that's the case there isn't a point in turning it off. I was wondering if it would increase the accuracy of the unit . I don't know that mine needs changed but the info is useful. Quote Link to comment

+Tahoe Skier5000
Unfortunately, leatherman is right... You don't have to worry about sluggish performance with WAAS enabled on a Magellan like you do on a Garmin. Garmin's just don't like WAAS on, and you end up paying for it with a slightly decreased battery life and decreased map drawing speed. Since you own a Meridian though, just keep WAAS on for better accuracy. Edited May 30, 2004 by vw_ev Quote Link to comment
+GOT GPS?
A Forester's Guide to Using the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS): http://www.geotips.com/geotip/geotip19.0.htm Because of those stupid Trees, keep WAAS off, I keep WAAS off on all my GPS units. I can say that The Meridian Platinum performed better than any of my garmins, except for my new GPS60C. I keep WAAS off with that also. Edited May 30, 2004 by GOT GPS? Quote Link to comment
