Sometimes I swear that my eTrex Vista gives funny compass readings when they batteries are low, but since I use a real compass when I get close it doesn't really matter. quote:2..At the site,I took 6 different readings and picked the best one.Later i went back and the reading was different.I used .662W,,,,later reading was.666W. Sounds like you made a real attempt to get as accurate as possible. Now post them and let the seekers seek. ... +urbo Posted April 24, 2002 Posted April 24, 2002 why the mad face. dont sweat it. stand by the cache and take a reading. as long as you have a good lock on the satellites and youre set to wgs84 your good. your hints or clues will steer all but the most creatively challenged in the right direction. as far as batteries.. carry an extra set of good ones with you. use up what you have till they are dead and then drop in the new ones. i prefer rechargeables myself. urbo south fl Quote

BassoonPilot Posted April 29, 2002 Posted April 29, 2002 I was the first finder of bigbill's "silver mine" cache. The coordinates were plenty close enough; it was an easy find. Good job for your first effort! Thanks for the cache! Quote
+Shoebox Posted April 29, 2002 Posted April 29, 2002 We were just talking about batteries over in the General section. What you should do is get four of the 1600 Nimh rechargeable batteries and a recharger. That way you always start out with fresh batteries and have a fresh set if the first set run down. And it will also be a long time before you have to buy another set of throwaway batteries again. Quote
+Beast of Traal Posted April 29, 2002 Posted April 29, 2002 What I do is take several readings then average the different readings eg. .123,.125,.120,.118,.127 use .123 Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal: a mind-bogglingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you - daft as a brush, but very very ravenous Quote

The next guy may be off in the opposite direction and be standing on your cache! - I always have the "plus" tolerances added together; nothing fits - Quote
